Hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (hours may be changed due to business needs)
Calendar: 190 days/year
Starting Salary: $35,000 (may increase with experience)
POSITION SUMMARY
Working in collaboration with staff, parents and the student, the Student and Family Advocate will assist students and families in acquiring resources and interventions that may be required to guarantee success in school.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree or higher in social work or related mental health career fields. Master's degree preferred. Experience working with young people in an educational setting is preferred. Previous experience in social work, counseling and crisis intervention and prevention preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Collaborates with school and district staff to assist students in acquiring the necessary skills to fully participate in an academic setting.
- Collaborates with school counselors and administrators in guaranteeing that students requiring intervention receive effective instruction consistent with District curriculum requirements.
- Collaborates with building and district-level student support specialists to ensure that the needs of students and families are met.
- Acts as an advocate for students and families with staff and administration to assist with student needs.
- Makes home visits as necessary to gather helpful information on student's background.
- Works with individual students and families to correct any personal, social or emotional issues related to their educational and social progress.
- Provides individual and group counseling for students to address concerns that are identified by building team members or family members.
- Facilitates referrals for school based counseling to community agencies for assigned building.
- Assist students and families in establishing health and academic plans to include, but not limited to, overcoming barriers for successful academic growth, assistance in accessing homebound services, counseling, intervention with family, peers or community agencies as needed.
