Job Description

SmartHire is looking for a Procurement Specialist for a leading manufacturer in Puyallup. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4 years of purchasing experience within the Manufacturing industry along with a degree. Advanced level ERP/MRP along with MS office is required. Must be able to work onsite.

Salary:

$65k-$90k DOE

We’re seeking a sharp, detail-obsessed Procurement Specialist to take the wheel of our tactical supply chain operations. In this role, you’ll be responsible for planning and executing the procurement strategy for assigned components, ensuring timely delivery, maintaining optimal inventory levels, and supporting cross-functional initiatives. This role plays a critical part in on-time part delivery, inventory optimization, and continuous improvement through Lean and Kaizen methodologies. Key Responsibilities

  • Order Management: Schedule and release purchase orders based on Oracle MRP data to support production and aftermarket needs.
  • Inventory Optimization: Monitor and maintain stock levels to avoid shortages and overages; meet inventory turns and reduction goals.
  • Supplier Performance: Communicate with suppliers to confirm delivery schedules, resolve discrepancies, and escalate issues when needed.
  • Data & System Accuracy: Maintain accurate part setup and information in the MRP system.
  • Process Improvement: Evaluate procurement procedures and recommend enhancements; participate in Lean/Kaizen initiatives for supply chain optimization.
  • Cost Control: Perform pricing analysis, execute competitive bids, and negotiate favorable contract terms.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain effective vendor relationships; manage VMI, Kanban, and consignment programs.
  • Problem Solving: Resolve supplier and invoice issues, coordinate returns of defective parts, and manage surplus/obsolete inventory.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with internal teams on warranty returns, material layout improvements, and training of junior planners.

  • Proficiency in Oracle MRP and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).

  • Excellent communicator—able to translate technical concepts clearly across teams and vendors.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field; OR equivalent experience (4+ years in planning/buying).
  • 4+ years of direct purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • 3–5+ years experience with Oracle MRP systems.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge strongly preferred.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience implementing or managing VMI, Kanban, or Consignment programs.
  • Prior involvement in Kaizen/Lean inventory and material flow initiatives.
