General Description of Duties **Position is a Grant funded position with an expiration date of 8/31/2027** NOTE TO INTERNAL APPLICANTS: INTERNAL CANDIDATES IN THE SAME CLASSIFICATION AND/OR PAY GRADE AS THE POSITION POSTED WILL NOT RECEIVE A PAY ADJUSTMENT IF SELECTED.
Under supervision, this position is responsible for supporting the Glass Recycling Program initiative, aligned with the priorities set by the Board of County Commissioners and the County's sustainability plan. The Sustainability Assistant will work closely with the Sustainability Coordinator to help develop, implement, and evaluate sustainability outreach initiatives for the County. This entry-level professional role requires ensuring compliance with all applicable County, State, and Federal codes and regulations related to the assigned duties.

- Assists with implementing County sustainability initiatives, using creative approaches to solve problems, working effectively across the organization, and delivering measurable results.
- Assists with implementing sustainability measuring and monitoring systems.
- Coordinate with departments in managing, measuring, and monitoring sustainability initiatives.
- Aids with community outreach, working with neighborhood organizations, environmental advocates, and other groups on sustainability projects.
- Maintains records and assist with preparing reports.
- Performs duties as assigned/necessary that are related, or logical in assignment to the position.
Minimum Qualifications Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Human Services, Education, Communication, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
Miscellaneous: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Interpersonal, planning, and communications skills; ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing, and in presentations.
- Knowledge of current models and programs for sustainability, including federal and state policies and measurement/monitoring of sustainability.
- Knowledge of climate change science, principles of energy and environmental management, social behavior change, and economic development.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks and coordinate with other administrative offices.
- Ability to present and promote sustainability initiatives to the public through various means of marketing and promotional activities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision making and all phases of responsibilities.
- Ability to read, update, and maintain various records and files.
- Ability to access, operate, and maintain various software applications.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional effective working relationship with other departments and to interact with all levels of employees, elected Officials, appointed Officials, Staff, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS: Physical demand: Sedentary
- 10 pounds maximum lifting.
- Occasional (up to 1/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Some occasional walking or standing may be required.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear.
- Good eyesight for protection and safety of self and others.
