Position Type: ProTech (Certified) Date Posted: 6/26/2025 Location: Special Services Special Education Transition Coordinator Position Summary: The Transition Coordinator promotes interdisciplinary coordination to ensure quality, equity, and continuity in the provision of transition-related special education services for students with disabilities across the district. The coordinator is responsible for leading the district's efforts to support effective postsecondary transition outcomes through instructional programming, community partnerships, and compliance with IDEA and state requirements. This position also oversees the implementation and operation of the Secondary Transition Education Path (STEP) Academy and collaborates with district-level staff, school teams, and external partners to support all aspects of secondary transition services. Essential Duties: Great Teaching & Learning (Instructional Infrastructure): Oversees the daily operations, instructional programming, staffing, and systems of the STEP Academy. Manages partnerships and contracts with outside agencies, including the Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services (DRS), to enhance vocational training and employment readiness services. Assists schools with the design and implementation of age-appropriate transition assessments, coordinated sets of activities, and individualized transition goals aligned with students' postsecondary outcomes. Great People (Talent Management): Serves as a direct resource to special and general education staff to support instructional development and planning for transition-aged students, including those in alternate curriculum settings. Plans, coordinates, and facilitates professional learning for district and school staff, related service providers, and families related to transition practices and policy. Great Culture (Systems Leaders): Cooperates with district and school administrators to develop and implement transition programming that supports improved postsecondary outcomes for students with disabilities. Contributes to the development and refinement of district policies and procedures pertaining to secondary transition services. Supports alignment of curriculum and instruction across special education programs to support access to general education, skill development, and employment readiness. Promotes the overall effectiveness of the organization by performing duties and sharing responsibilities of other department members during peak periods. Actively collaborates with the Office of Exceptional Student Services Leadership Team regarding advancing best practices for students with exceptional needs. Great Systems (Support & Accountability): Coordinates and supports districtwide secondary transition efforts in collaboration with school-based transition teachers. Participates in conferences and transition staffing meetings related to student placement, program planning, and mediation. Supports the selection, procurement, and maintenance of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment specific to transition and vocational programs. Monitors and ensures compliance with IDEA regulations related to transition services, including Indicator 13. Supervises Medicaid billing for Occupational and Physical services Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities): Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Mild-Moderate Disabilities, Severe Profound, or Comprehensive Special Education Minimum of five (5) years relevant special education experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience working directly with secondary transition services Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting students on an alternative curriculum Applied knowledge of school-based medicaid billing practices that allow for effective supervision of medicaid billing for OT and PT services. Strong knowledge of IDEA and state transition-related requirements Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and vocational education for students with disabilities Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities): Prior supervisory or leadership experience Experience with managing community agency partnerships or interagency agreements Familiarity with best practices in co-teaching, work-based learning, and self-determination instruction *Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education at a 2:1 ratio. Therefore for every 1 year of college lacking, 2 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted. Physical/Mental Requirements: Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on a computer. Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties. Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone. Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds. Sitting for prolonged periods of time. May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes. stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines. Work Environment: Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment. Will require time in office, as well as external meeting locations with community partners or schools throughout the OKC metro area. May require participation in meetings and activities outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays. May be required to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
