We are seeking a Psychiatric Physician Assistant to join our team!

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Obtains detailed history on assigned patients, assesses and treats acute/ chronic medical or psychiatric problems, and provides direct patient care to a specified patient population.
• Writes prescriptions for medications, including controlled substances and psychotropic drugs.
• Notifies supervision physician regarding any unusual or unexpected events or problems requiring direct physician consultation.
• Writes progress notes on patients' charts indicating patient status and treatment performed; maintains other records as required.
• Shares after hours call duties with supervising physician.
• Manages patient/family calls for medical questions and concerns.
• Provides health education to patient and families. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
• Assist physician with medication monitoring and prescription refills.
• Medical liaison between physician, patients and outside providers.
• Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, and workshops.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a related scientific or technical discipline
• Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies

Certifications Required:

• Certified Physician Assistant licensed by the Texas Medical Board
• Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
• DEA Registration

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years experience in a psychiatric setting

Languages:

• Fluent in Spanish preferred

Knowledge Required:

• Knowledge of psychiatric care principles and practices.
• Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
• Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
• Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
• Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

Abilities Required:

• Ability to collaborate with supervising physician.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
• Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners.
• Ability to educate patients and/or families as to the nature of the disease and to provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
• Skills in preparing and maintaining patient records.
