Job Description:
A Postdoctoral Researcher position is immediately available in the Sukenik Lab (Chemistry Department and BioInspired Institute at Syracuse University), to develop novel computational and experimental methods to study the structural sensitivity of intrinsically disordered proteins. The work will involve being a key player in a team that combines experimental and computational experiments with theoretical models to explain how sequence translates into structural sensitivity. Candidates can expect to take a lead roll in their work with and mentor trainees, including graduate students and undergrads, as well as with collaborating labs both within the university and outside.

Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, or closely related field is required. Prior publication record in computational protein biophysics is required.

Job Specific Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a strong background in computational methods, including but not limited to molecular simulations (all-atom, coarse graining, and/or monte carlo-driven). They will have a strong fundamental knowledge in protein biophysics and physical chemistry. Also required are strong programming skills in python and bash, and a good working knowledge of HPC environments and working with schedulers like SLURM. A good candidate should also have strong verbal and written communication skills, be a strong and collegial team player, embrace open science policies including preprint publications, and be enthusiastic about learning new skills and methods.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, run, and analyze molecular simulations aimed at understanding, predicting, and designing sensitivity in intrinsically disordered proteins
  • Design, run, and analyze high-throughput experiments aimed to profile protein sensitivity at scale
  • Maintain proper logs and write up manuscripts involved in the work above
  • Maintain knowledge of recent literature
  • Mentor and assist other lab members
  • Present work at conferences
