About the Position:

The Mental Health Advocate provides individual and group trauma-informed therapy to children and adolescents who have experienced domestic violence, physical or sexual abuse, or neglect and provides trauma-informed case management, counseling advocacy, and group sessions to victims and survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

  • Make initial contact with clients within 24 hours of being assigned the case.
  • Conduct individual therapy sessions with clients to address their mental health and promote healing.
  • Identify and prioritize clients' self-identified case management and counseling needs. Develop customized plans.
  • Utilize trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, sensory motor arousal regulation treatment, art therapy, play therapy, and other modalities to address the unique needs of each client.
  • Conduct trauma informed, survivor-centered, goal-oriented counseling advocacy with clients on a regular basis.
  • Conduct comprehensive trauma assessments and develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and their families.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support to clients, their families, and/or caregivers in immediate distress, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including case managers, advocates, and other therapists, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for clients.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records, progress notes, and treatment plans in compliance with agency policies and legal requirements.
  • Participate in regular clinical supervision and team meetings to enhance professional growth and ensure quality care.
  • Stay informed about current research, best practices, and emerging trends in trauma therapy for children and adolescents.
  • Co-facilitate group sessions on various relevant topics.
  • Provide referrals for needed services to appropriate agencies and providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring to the Team:

We are seeking a bi-lingual professional fluent in English and Spanish, with a deep understanding of child development, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatment modalities for trauma. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to build therapeutic relationships with children, adolescents, and adults from diverse backgrounds. They demonstrate strong knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, families, and team members. This individual is adaptable, mission-oriented, and equipped with an equity and social justice mindset. They are proficient in maintaining confidential client records, managing time independently, and utilizing community resources effectively.

You'll Stand Out If:

  • You hold a Master's degree in social work, counseling, or psychology.
  • You are actively working toward full licensure or currently accruing hours for LCSW/LICSW or LMHC.
  • You have three years' experience providing trauma-focused therapy to children and adolescents. in a domestic violence or sexual assault setting, including utilizing evidence-based treatment modalities
