Job Description

**Fleet Manager**

** San Francisco Full Time**

**Job Details**

Job Summary

The Fleet Manager oversees UCSFs Transportation Departments fleet of transit buses, vans, sedans and parking enforcement vehicles. He/she oversees fleet technology, clean fuel alternatives, fleet acquisition, maintenance and surplusing.

Transportation Department Fleet includes All-electric BYD buses, standard gasoline-powered buses, all-electric vans, hybrid sedans and parking enforcement vehicles. The Fleet Management is overseen by the Fleet Manager with assistance of one full-time employee and fleet washing/cleaning and maintenance service contracts. Because of the large and diverse fleet and outsourced maintenance contracts, the individual requires excellent managerial skills to engage and supervise employees and contractors.

Pre-COVID, approximately two million passengers were transported each year by UCSFs 80 buses on 18 different routes. All of the routes are through a dense metropolitan area and across hilly terrain. The number of buses and routes is expected to increase once the current Work From Home directive ends and in tandem with the universitys continued growth. Key responsibilities of the Fleet Manager are to plan for the continued growth of UCSFs transit system, manage the complexities that are associated with an expanded network, and maintain fleet that meets the operational, safety and sustainability goals. The individual also has responsibility for providing outstanding customer service and improving both the driver and passenger experience by harnessing available technology such as Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) systems and On-board camera system and other equipment.

UCSFs current fleet is very diverse and includes 15 all-electric BYD buses, all-electric vans, gasoline and diesel buses, parking enforcement vehicles and hybrid sedans. The Fleet Manager will be instrumental in the Universitys efforts to acquire additional electric buses (applying for grant support, whenever possible) and for maintaining the electric vehicle fleet. Concurrently, the individual must also maintain the Universitys old shuttle fleet, making recommendations to leadership for surplusing vehicles when warranted. To a lesser extent, but nevertheless important, the individual will acquire, maintain, and inventory various other types of vehicles (in additional to transit buses and shuttles), including parking vehicles and vehicles for other UCSF departments, including specialty vehicles for police, facilities, mail services. A key responsibility of this position will be to work with outside vendors and ensure maintenance, repair, and bodywork is procured according to policies and performed at the highest value.
