Student Affairs - Title III Grant

Shiprock Campus

Duty Schedule:

Weekly 40 Hours Monday-Friday

Summary/Objective of Position:

Student Affairs seeks to hire a Promotion/Health Education Coordinator in support of its vision to create a culture of lifestyle enhancement programs. Working under the Student Wellness Manager, the Coordinator will design, implement and evaluate the goal to improve health knowledge, attitudes and behaviors by conducting health education and behavioral health-risk prevention programs. Furthermore, the Coordinator will execute health education opportunities for students in order to address short and long-term student health needs by providing health education trainings and programs, workshops, and outreach services. We are searching for an empathic person who supports and understands how to engage students, speak their language, and advocate on their behalf, overall a program coordinator who thrives to putting strategic plans into action.

Title III Grand Period: October 1, 2020 - September 30, 2025.

PLANS, ORGANIZES, AND COORDINATES
1. To promote and create a culture of wellness through diversity, inclusion and health equity among all students.
2. To implement evidence-based programming to improve student wellness awareness and behaviors and to eliminate health disparities; provide direct guidance and support for students experiencing isolation, boredom, anxiety, and stress.

DEVELOPS AND IMPLEMENTS NEW INITIATIVES
1. To design and implement well designed innovative/new programs and services to meet the needs of the student population, focusing on building resiliency, increasing mental and physical wellbeing, and encouraging pro-health behaviors.

2. To research, expand, and implement educational programs and workshops on a variety of health and wellness topics to support specific challenges of diverse student groups.

COORDINATES/COLLABORATES OF SERVICES
3. To assess, develop and implement student wellness services through campus-wide surveys, interviews, administrative reports, and other methods; empower students with opportunities for academic advancement.
4. To engage and collaborate with campus-wide committees and teams devoted to student wellness.

MONITORS AND REPORTS
1. To maintain collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to develop awareness and access to materials supporting behavior and lifestyle change by developing web-based wellness materials and programs.

2. To maintain recording keeping, documents, reports and routine correspondences in a timely manner; collect student data and provide information accordingly; promote and use data-driven decision making.

3. To maintain and ensure the overall success of the College's student health and wellness efforts by performing all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

Minimum:

Bachelor's Degree in public and/or medical health education, psychology, social work, student affairs, nursing, or education.

Two years of conducting professional presentations, seminars or closely related program and/or providing health education experience.

Preferred:

Master's Degree in an area of health education with one year of professional communications and/or health education experience.

Knowledge:

- Working knowledge of current laws and best practices related to FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and other applicable regulations.
- Knowledge of overcoming barriers similar to those faced by the target population.

Skills:

- Good planning, organization and administrative skills; demonstrate strong analytical skills, conflict resolution skills and leadership skills; pay attention to detail; and exemplify strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Adaptable and flexible in multiple situations and schedules.
- Ability to conduct presentations and provide information and services at a short notice.
- Proficiency with Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), tools for virtual meetings, and student information systems.

Abilities:

- Ability to set and attain goals while working with the department team to implement the department's vision of building a culture of student wellness. Take lead in developing wellness policies, procedures, structures, and initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/tasks with thorough attention to details and consistency.
- Demonstrate ability to work with and among diverse communities and cultures.

Physical Requirements, Work Environment & Travel:

- Long hours of sitting, using a computer, or traveling to other sites.
- Use of college vehicle, which requires updated Navajo Nation Public Highway Safety certificate.
- Light work: exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force more frequently.
- Work requires lifting, stooping, bending, stretching, walking, standing and other physical exertion at times.

Other Requirement(s):

- Valid state driver's license is required.
