DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
The following position is now bid: Director of Special Education
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Direct and supervise the operation of the District's Special Education Services
SUPERVISOR: Superintendent of Schools
SUPERVISE AND EVALUATE: Supervisors for Special Education, School Psychologists and assigned office personnel
SALARY RANGE: $110,000 - $120,000 with Board Paid TRS and employee health benefits
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant must possess the following qualifications:
General Administrative Endorsement is required
Director of Special Education Endorsement is required
Minimum of two (2 ) years teaching experience in special education
Training and experience with special education rules, regulations, and laws
Administrative or Supervisory experience in special education preferred
Applicants should have knowledge and be able to articulate, document through experience or verify involvement in the following: Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Administer and evaluate the operations and effectiveness of the District's Special Education Services
Consult with principals and staff members on the operation of Special Education Services in schools and respond to questions and concerns of employees and families
Provide students with Individualized Educational Program (IEP) services in a least restrictive environment
Provides leadership and direction for cost-effective and improved special education services for students with special needs in the least restrictive environment
Attend Board of Education meetings and prepare such reports for the Board as may be required by the Superintendent
Interpret and advise on the development of special education policies, procedures and services
Serve as coordinator or team participant for the following programs and satisfy both State and Federal reporting requirements. Such programs and reports include: Section 504 - Rehabilitation Act of 1973 b. Chapter I- P.L. 89-313

Other reports as may be required by statute or the Superintendent Participate in interviews for new employment as needed
Advise on the assignment of teaching staff and caseloads in consultation with central office staff and principals
Coordinate and monitor the effectiveness of: special education teachers, assistants, speech clinicians, social workers, nurses, and school psychologists
Prepare the budget for special education
Monitors IDEA grant implementation and requirements
Coordinate referral, evaluation, child review conferences, annual reviews, and Individualized Educational Program services for students
Collect and analyze data on student achievement on state, benchmark and local assessments.
Monitor student referrals for Special Education evaluation and prepare recommendations based upon research
Coordinate the placement of students in facilities outside of Unit 11 and assist with supportive services including tuition, expense claims, and billing
Serve as the liaison to the Illinois State Board of Education in matters relating to Special Education Services
Maintain a working liaison with governmental, social, professional, civic and volunteer agencies
Establish and maintain a program of personal and professional growth
Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
