The Modern Classrooms Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers educators to build classrooms that respond to every student’s needs. Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.

To date, we have reached over 85,000 teachers through our free online course and 15,000+ teachers through our Virtual Mentorship Program from over 200 school, district, and state partners. We are an ambitious, idealistic team led by former classroom teachers, and we are passionate about what we do. 

Job Description:  

The Director of Learning Design will empower thousands of educators worldwide to meet their students’ needs by ensuring that the teachers we serve have the resources and learning experiences required to understand and implement our instructional model effectively.  This team member will manage all teacher-facing content we leverage to train and support teachers, including our free and premium online courses, resources we provide freely on our website and social media platforms, and webinars and PD materials. This team member will also optimize the learning experiences we offer to teachers in our training programs and contribute to the design of our credentialing programs.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Director of Learning Design will report directly to the Vice President of Programs and will work on three key areas:

 

Professional Learning Design - We offer free and premium online courses for teachers to learn our instructional model and deepen their implementation of our model, as well as ongoing support to teachers who have already completed our training. The Director will:

  • Manage and maintain our online courses hosted in Thinkific and Moodle, leading annual audits and updates of our courses.

     
  • Leverage our network of educators worldwide to curate the best available content across a wide range of grade levels and subject areas.

     
  • Identify, plan, and create teacher-facing PD materials including how-to guides, templates, checklists, etc.

     
  • Prepare content for educator-facin g webinars and presentations, as well as content that educators can use to share our model with their own networks.

User Experience - The Director of Learning Design will ensure that our training programs and online courses provide user-friendly, accessible, and responsive learning experiences for our educators. The Director will:

  • Conduct user interviews and focus groups with our educators and teacher leaders.

     
  • Review and prioritize user feedback.

     
  • Generate email, text message, and newsletter copy with clear calls-to-action that equip users with the key information they need to succeed in our programs and beyond.

     
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Programs, the Senior Program Operations Manager, and contractors to ensure that our learning management systems are responsive to our users’ needs.

     

Credentialing Design - Our credentialed teacher leaders are a dynamic group of educators worldwide who share their expertise with our community through creating content, leading webinars and events, and training other educators as Expert Mentors. The Director will:

  • Design materials to support the promotion of our credentialing programs.

     
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Programs and Senior Manager for Teacher Leadership to improve existing and design new credentials.

     
  • Collaborate across the department in the development of meaningful application processes.

Must-Have Skills and Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of our instructional model

     
  • Experience designing and leading high-quality professional learning for adults

     
  • Excellent writer and editor with a high level of attention to detail

     
  • Ability to structure text, images, charts, and other elements in materials like guides, templates, checklists, and presentations to create visually clean, user-friendly resources for educators

     
  • Strong organizational skills , with the ability to manage multiple projects at once

     
  • Ability to produce high-quality work promptly and efficiently

     
  • Expertise with ed-tech tools including video-recording software and Course/ Learning Management Systems

     
  • Eagerness to work in a start-up environment , including comfort with remote, independent work and adaptability and flexibility to meet the needs of a growing organization 

     

Preferred Experiences and Skills:

  • Experience implementing the Modern Classrooms model

     
  • Basic understanding of User Experience best practices

     
  • Basic web development experience (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)

     
  • Basic design skills in tools such as Canva or the Adobe suite

     
  • Experience managing contractor relationships
