ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Reports to the Chief Program Officer. Oversees Creative Therapies programs within the general policies and guidelines of the Agency; provides overall leadership, supervision and coordination to develop and maintain effective team delivery of services to youth. Active participation in development and implementation of a strategic plan for continued quality improvement and growth of the Creative Therapies Department. Use of effective verbal and written communication with employees, referring agencies, youth and families. Must be able to effectively use both verbal and physical intervention skills with individuals six (6) through twenty-one (21) years of age. Physical intervention skills require the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Frequent use of computer. Frequent use of a personal vehicle to provide support at multiple service locations across Chicago. Flexible schedule required as supervisor maintains on-call responsibility 24-hours a day, 7 days a week or work on weekends as needed.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, coordinate and implement program services consistent with program objectives, agency policies, and funding/grant requirements.
  • Develops and implements a vision for the growth of Creative Therapies in line with the agency mission, needs of youth/families and community and strategic initiatives.
  • Provide direct supervision to employees assigned, holding bi-weekly documented individual supervision and regular team meetings that promote professional growth, fosters employee's strengths and provides redirection as needed. Sets a positive example for employees.
  • Attend, and ensure employees attend training related to being trauma informed-at least two every twelve months
  • Understand the impact of secondary trauma and workplace stress and use strategies to prevent, minimize and/or help employees heal and recover
  • Make recommendations on hiring, termination, promotions, performance evaluations, and other personnel actions concerning employees assigned
  • Make recommendations on budgetary and fiscal matters and holds employees accountable for the proper disbursement and utilization of funds
  • Ensure assessment tools used to inform practice and treatment include screens for trauma exposure
  • Actively involved in planning and delivery of training related to own area of expertise and needs of programs supervised
  • Oversees work schedules and coordinates for proper team functioning
  • Maintain confidentiality of employees, volunteers, and program participants to provide a safe environment
  • Ability to work effectively with program participants and family members, employees and vendors in

a culturally diverse environment to support healing and recovery

  • Maintain regular communication with supervisor
  • Participates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assigned
  • Develops and maintains relationships with creative programming partners and coordinates services across the agency's core programs and with external parties
  • Maintain compliance with the American Music Therapy Association's National Roster Internship guidelines
    • Candidates who are Board Certified Music Therapists (MT-BC) will act of the internship director and supervisor as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree in human services field preferred or Bachelor's Degree with equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Credential or licensure in a Creative Therapies discipline (examples include but are not limited to, music, art, therapeutic recreation, drama, or dance therapy)
  • Minimum of three years related experience and ability to effectively provide supervision
  • Knowledge of childhood trauma and prior experience working in settings with youth and families that have been exposed to trauma or experiencing traumatic stress preferred
  • Knowledge of youth development, adolescent issues, positive youth development/strength based approach preferred
  • Personal vehicle or access to vehicle and proof of insurance
  • Valid Illinois Driver's license
  • No history of child abuse or neglect
  • Ability to pass background and drug screen
