Salary range: $2,411 - $2,894 (Semi-monthly)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, hourly

Position closes: Open until filled

Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the minimum to mid-point of the salary range for the role. Hiring at the mid-point of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under limited supervision, monitors and approves all phases of residential/commercial/industrial building construction (new & other) to ensure a code compliant level of health, safety, and welfare to county residents through compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities listed below are central to the job and the employee must be able to perform each function satisfactorily. (1) Schedule and perform field inspections of building construction to ensure compliance with Federal, State and local regulations; inspections to include but not limited to footings, foundations, framing, roofing, plumbing, heating, gas, septic and related matters including building code enforcement.

(2) Assist and advise the public in matters related to regulation requirements; meet with contractors, architects, engineers and homeowner-builders to answer questions or resolve non-compliance issues with reference to regulations.

(3) Provide information and direction at Board of Review meetings regarding code issues.

(4) Keep abreast of current industry developments and changes to the codes in order to provide accurate information to contractors and the public.

(5) Maintain accurate records pertaining to permits and inspections. Provide inspection information and reports to various organizations.

(6) Inspect for zoning compliance as needed and identified by the Planning Division.

(7) Perform plan review on an as-needed basis.

(8) Perform similar duties as assigned.

Requirements

(1) Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of: local building, plumbing and mechanical codes and regulations; building specifications and plans; principles and processes for providing excellent customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Skilled in: use of basic computer software programs; understanding and applying pertinent laws, rules, regulations and policies; using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; maintaining confidentiality; organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines and following up on assignments with minimum direction and supervision; applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; understanding, interpreting and communicating complicated policies, procedures and protocols; working in a deadline driven environment; initiating and responding to high volume of daily calls/contact; interacting with all levels of internal and external professionals while developing strong productive relationships; designing strategies, analyzing results and making recommendations; organization and time management.

Ability to: communicate effectively in writing and verbally; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with co-workers, other county departments, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and the public; maintain confidentiality and discretion; be a self-starter; successfully accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously while working independently or within a team environment; work with minimal supervision; deal with a variety of people, cultures, problems and circumstances; analyze and resolve problems involving several variables; understand and carry out written and oral instructions, giving close attention to detail and accuracy.

(2) Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalent; four (4) years of work-related experience; any acceptable combination of education, training and experience that provides the listed knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

(3) Visual Acuity/Hearing/Speaking : Must be able to write and read; able to hear, see and speak.

(4) Physical Effort/Dexterity: This position works primarily in a field setting but daily office setting is required to include daily routine computer usage; requires the ability to drive a vehicle; moderate physical exertion and the normal range of motion and dexterity; ability to sit (sometimes for extended periods of time), stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, crawl or climb; ability to lift, pull or drag up to 25 lbs. for short periods of time.

(5) Environmental Factors : Work is generally performed in a field environment and may require exposure to adverse conditions; such conditions include dirt, noise, rain, snow, and extremes of temperatures.

(6) Work Schedule/Characteristics : 40 hours per week.

(7) License/Certification Requirements : Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Colorado driver's license. Possession of or ability to obtain ICC Certification for Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector and Mechanical Inspector within twelve (12) months of hire date; possession of or ability to obtain ICC Certification for Building Inspector within six (6) months of hire date; maintain enough continuing education credits to keep ICC Certifications for Building and/or Plumbing/Mechanical Inspector current.
