Job Summary

Position Summary: King’s Daughters Child Development Center seeks a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Board of Directors. As a board member, you will play a key role in shaping the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring financial oversight, and supporting the KDCDC mission.

This is a volunteer position with a two-year term that requires a commitment to regularly attend board meetings and any scheduled committee meetings.

About Us: Opened over five decades ago as the King’s Daughters Day Home, the heart of the mission of the center today remains the same: With values of faith and excellence, we nurture children in an engaging, safe, and inclusive learning environment as we serve our families, personnel, and local communities, regardless of financial status. As a United Way-supported, nonprofit child care facility, King’s Daughters Child Development Center (KDCDC) annually serves approximately 100 children, from infants to five years old, and about 15 – 25 school-age children during the summer months. Families pay weekly fees on a sliding scale based on income. We provide classroom activities and enrichment opportunities that aid in developmental growth, professional development for teachers, and family engagement opportunities and workshops for families.

Job Responsibilities

  • Commitment: A commitment to KDCDC’s mission, vision, and values. 
  • Leadership: Maintain strategic involvement at the Board level. Approve and support the strategic plan. Provide input on relationships with other organizations. As a Board Member, you are legally responsible for the organization.
  • Financial Oversight: Review and approve monthly and yearly financials, budgets, and significant financial decisions. 
  • Participation: Regularly attend board meetings, scheduled committee meetings, and responsiveness to Board communication.
  • Fundraising Support: Support fundraising efforts by identifying potential donors, making personal contributions, and participating in fundraising events. 
  • Advocacy: Advocate for KDCDC in the community. Share the mission, priorities, and programs of King’s Daughters Child Development Center. 
  • Integrity: Maintain professionalism and the highest ethical standards regarding confidentiality and remove yourself from any personal or business conflict of interest.
  • Board Committees: Serve on 1 Board Committee. Each Board Member is asked to choose a committee to serve on. Faithfully attend and contribute to the committee meetings.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to make effective decisions. 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to work as part of a team to build consensus. 
  • Willingness to participate in fundraising and advocacy efforts.
