Job Description

About Us

Notion helps you build beautiful tools for your life’s work. In today's world of endless apps and tabs, Notion provides one place for teams to get everything done, seamlessly connecting docs, notes, projects, calendar, and email – with AI built in to find answers and automate work.

Millions of users, from individuals to large organizations like Toyota, Figma, and OpenAI, love Notion for its flexibility and choose it because it helps them save time and money.

Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.

Notion is an in-person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day). This internship will take place from May - September (based on your summer schedule) and you will need to be able to work out of our SF office during this time.

About The Role

Notion has been transforming knowledge work, building a connected workspace and AI teammates that empower millions of professionals to spend less time on busywork and more on their life’s work. As a UX Research intern, you’ll work with the teams driving our product growth strategy, researching how users discover and adopt our expanding ecosystem of tools – including Calendar, Mail, and AI.

You'll independently run research projects from start to finish, translating stakeholder needs into concrete research plans and delivering insights that shape our product strategy. Working alongside passionate experts across Product, Design, Data, and Engineering, you'll help build the tools that millions of people rely on to get their work done.

This role is perfect for someone finishing their graduate studies who wants to take on impactful research projects at a company shaping the future of work.

What You'll Achieve

  • Design and conduct research studies to understand user behavior, needs, and how to improve their experience with Notion
  • Translate research findings into clear, actionable recommendations that inform product strategy and design decisions
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams across Product, Design, Data Science, and Engineering to frame research questions and drive impact
  • Build relationships with stakeholders across the organization, learning to tailor your message for a variety of audiences – designers, engineers, executives – to ensure it lands
  • Contribute to how we understand and measure the value people get from Notion

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD degree in a research-oriented field (e.g. HCI, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Sociology, Business, or related disciplines), with graduation in 2026 or 2027
  • At least one prior internship or substantial research experience that demonstrates your ability to work independently and deliver results
  • Available for a full-time internship from May–September 2026, with the ability to work onsite in our San Francisco office

Skills You'll Need To Bring

  • Strong research craft: You can independently design and execute studies from start to finish. You understand the strengths and limitations of various qualitative and quantitative methods (e.g. user interviews, usability testing, surveys) and know when to apply each to deliver the right insights.
  • Effective communication: You can distill complex data into clear, coherent narratives and explain your insights to cross-functional partners, both in writing and verbally.
  • Team player: You enjoy collaborating cross-functionally to accomplish shared goals, and you care about learning, growing, and helping others to do the same.
  • Product and business sense: You understand how research connects to business outcomes and can prioritize what matters most.
  • Adaptive problem-solving: You can navigate uncertainty, adapt to shifting priorities, and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the software landscape that powers modern knowledge work and curiosity about how people adopt new technologies
  • Curiosity about AI and experience using AI tools to accelerate or improve your work
  • You use Notion to organize your life or work (and have opinions on how it could be better!)

We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.
