Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Arts Ambassador and Collections & Gallery Assistant. The student worker will support the Office for the Arts and report directly to the Senior Advisor & Executive Director for the Arts. Individuals in this role must possess an understanding of and be committed to the efficient operation of the office and galleries while maintaining confidentiality and best practices for the arts. The student worker must take pride in their work and be proficient at prioritization and handling multiple tasks. Ideal candidates will possess a desire to be mentored in the arts and arts administration.

As an Arts Ambassador and Collections & Gallery Assistant, individuals will represent the Office for the Arts through various events, exhibitions, committees, councils, and collaborations with student government and student organizations, other Divisions and Departments at Nevada State University, and through campus and public facing arts events and exhibitions.

This position will assist with administrative and office support duties, coordinating events, and NS Collections & Galleries maintenance and programming. This includes things like audience data collection, assisting with grant and fundraising arts initiatives, program development, tours of the collections and exhibitions, and special projects.

Core Responsibilities:

Arts Ambassador & Event Staffing
  • Serve as an Arts Ambassador for the Office for the Arts for on/off-campus NS program activities which includes events, tabling, booth set-up, maintaining proper attire, and speaking with prospective students, parents, and external organization representatives.
  • Work on-campus and off-campus in various roles such as, but not limited to: ambassador, event check-in, docent, set-up and take-down of events and meetings.
  • Assist in the recruitment of arts programming participants and promote opportunities for prospective and current students to engage with the arts at Nevada State.
  • Maintain notes and confidentiality of files created in the program office, which contain sensitive information.
  • Provide in-class presentations about the Office for the Arts and its programs and events, or approved presentations as requested.
  • Assist with the development of programming, workshops, presentations, events, and gallery exhibitions. Identify and develop areas of expertise for presentation.
  • Create social media content, flyers, and other promotional material for review by the Senior Advisor & Executive Director for the Arts.

NS Collections & Galleries Assistant
  • Assist with art install/de-install.
  • Monthly/yearly inventory.
  • Photograph collections and exhibitions for archives and promotional materials.
  • Develop, schedule and lead tours of the collections and temporary exhibitions.
  • Collect data for arts proposals, program evaluation, and audience building.
  • Gather data and artifacts for required reporting.

Office for the Arts Administrative Support
  • Provide excellent customer service when communicating with the campus and public via phone, email, video, and in-person at the Office for the Arts, at office arts events and exhibitions, and/or other campus and community activities.
  • Support general operations in copying, ordering, printing, and stocking of office and promotional material.
  • Attend one-on-one meetings with the Senior Advisor & Executive Director for the Arts to discuss job responsibilities and opportunities for mentoring.
  • Assist with office support, including creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.
  • Perform a variety of clerical and organizational tasks including, but not limited to: scheduling tours, appointments, and meetings, printing, making copies, scanning, filing, and record keeping.
  • Provide administrative support for arts fundraising, grant research, proposals, and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Must be enrolled as a degree seeking student with a minimum of 6 credits in the current or upcoming semester at Nevada State.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship (Nevada State does not sponsor employment-related visas).
  • Organized self-starter with an ability to plan and manage several ongoing projects independently and with others.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in person, by phone, and online.
  • Flexible schedule for assistance with afternoon, evening programming, and occasional weekends.
  • Demonstrated experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
  • Ability to meet & manage tasks and deadlines.
  • Must be dependable and able to use discretion and sound judgement regularly in handling and disseminating highly sensitive information about Nevada State stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and without constant direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in working with the Adobe Creative Suite and Canva.
  • Strong business writing skills.
  • Event planning experience, preferably with on-campus events.
  • Strong knowledge of Nevada State campus and the Nevada State Collections & Galleries; ability to conduct campus art tours with prospective donors. (If not, training will be provided)
  • Previous coursework or related experience in the arts, public history, or other related arts & culture experience.

Work Hours:

Student employees may work up to 19.5 hours per week. Scheduled hours may vary by week depending on events, projects, and student worker availability.

Hourly Rate:

$14.00 per hour.
