Structural Design Engineer

LOCATION
Position will be 100% onsite in Greenville, SC.
(Local candidates or willing to relocate at the candidate's expense)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical knowledge and perform engineering work as described below. This position serves as a staff engineer performing engineering assignment of intermediate complexity.

  1. Under direct supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Area Lead Engineer, analyze and make independent recommendations regarding technical solutions to problems of intermediate complexity in accordance with project requirements
  2. Develop and review specifications and design criteria
  3. Perform and check engineering analyses and calculations; specify materials, equipment and systems; and solve technical problems of intermediate complexity
  4. Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
  5. Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
  6. Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines
  7. Establish, control and report on material key quantities; provide analysis and forecasts
  8. Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including scopes of work, technical bid evaluations and review of vendor submittals
  9. Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
  10. Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and minimum five (5) years of work-related experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
  2. Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  4. Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  5. Intermediate knowledge of discipline codes and standards.
  6. Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes and guidelines.
  7. Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  8. Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs.
  9. Experience providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on commercial or industrial projects.
  10. Proficiency executing EPC projects utilizing engineering analysis, 3D modeling and 2D computer-aided drafting and design (CADD). automation tools in a multi-discipline environment.
  11. Design and analysis of steel and concrete structures (reinforced concrete and structural steel) experience OR Design and analysis of commodity supports experience.
  12. Proficient in STAADPro, Excel, and MathCad.
  13. Code experience with ACI 318-14, 349-13, AISC N690-18, ASCE 7-16, 4-16, 43-19 as well as experience with IBC-2018.
  14. Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
  15. Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening.

Discipline Specific Job Requirements

  1. Intermediate knowledge of performing hand and computer calculations for foundations, concrete, and steel structures
  2. Intermediate knowledge of one or more of the following structural design software: STAAD, STAADPro and RISA3D
  3. Intermediate knowledge of Mathcad
  4. Intermediate knowledge of:
    1. Analyzing complex structures
    2. Wind and seismic loading in structural calculations
    3. Dynamic analysis and design
    4. Computer modeling and analysis
    5. Blast design

Desired Qualifications

  1. Professional Engineer license
  2. Experience with design of systems, structures and components for nuclear facilities under the requirements of ASME NQA-1
  3. Practical field experience
  4. EPC project experience for the following industries:
    1. U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency
    2. Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
    3. Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
