Seafood Service/Meat Manager Hy‑Vee, Inc. invites applications for the Seafood Service/Meat Manager position. This full‑time, non‑exempt role is located in the Meat department. Job Overview A Seafood Service/Meat Manager is responsible for presenting the freshest, highest‑quality products at a competitive price, training employees, managing schedules, merchandising displays, and ensuring department profitability while upholding company guidelines and expectations. General Function Manage the department to company standards, including customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, employee relations, profitability, and overall professional appearance. Direct reports: Assistant Seafood/Service Meat Department Manager, Clerks. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Maintain a positive, friendly attitude and foster teamwork. Afford customers courteous, efficient service and greet them warmly in the department and throughout the store. Set standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and profitability. Assist customers with product location, securing out‑of‑reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, and reflecting customer suggestions. Answer phone calls promptly and take product orders. Train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate all department employees. Determine weekly work schedules and daily work plans. Inspect signage and displays for quality and quantity, and order products for replenishment. Communicate sales ideas and resolve customer issues. Ensure correct retail pricing and analyze sales trends, preparing projections and advertising. Plan displays, promotions, and pre‑orders. Maintain strict temperature and storage procedures to preserve freshness and minimize shrink. Troubleshoot equipment and ensure proper maintenance. Adhere to personal hygiene, dress, and company policies. Report to work on time. Secondary Duties & Responsibilities Conduct inventory of the department. Ensure competitive pricing in the market area. Attend meetings and seminars. Fill displays, check in delivered merchandise, and contribute to the sales area. Perform other departmental duties and special projects as needed. Assist in other store areas as required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Characteristics Problem‑solving ability with limited standardization. Arithmetic proficiency (fractions, decimals, percentages). Original correspondence writing and technical manual following. Effective interpersonal communication and team leadership. Education & Experience High School diploma or equivalent; food safety training required. Three to five years of similar or related experience. Supervisory Responsibilities Plan, assign, review, and oversee work of direct reports. Maintain performance standards, coordinate activities, and allocate personnel. Recommend employee transfers, disciplinary actions, and salary increases. Physical Requirements Ability to exert up to 100 lbs occasionally; up to 50 lbs frequently; up to 10 lbs constantly. Vision ranging from less than 20 inches to beyond 20 feet, with or without correction. Perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, loading, gripping, and repetitive motions. Working Conditions Daily exposure to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, chemicals, and electrical hazards in a fast‑paced environment. Equipment Used Knives, slicers, steamers, pallet jacks, scales, computer, phone, wrapping machine, tenderizers, and the C.A.R.S. reordering system. Confidentiality & Financial Responsibility Access to confidential information, including employee compensation, inventory reports, sales and profit data, and pricing.
