Job Description

Job Title: Sales Engineer – Nuclear Manufacturing

Location: Chattanooga, TN

Experience Preferred: 10+ Years

Reports To: Vice President of Sales

Company Overview:
Join a highly respected precision manufacturing firm based in Chattanooga, TN, specializing in providing engineering services to nuclear utilities, DOE contractors, DOD programs, aerospace, and other high-specification industries. This company excels in large-format CNC machining, advanced fabrication, and a wide range of engineering services, including reverse engineering and equipment qualification. Their commitment to quality aligns with rigorous standards such as NQA-1, ASME, and ISO certifications.

Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Sales Engineer to serve as a critical technical and commercial interface between our client’s customers, estimating team, engineers, and production staff. This role is pivotal for reviewing nuclear-grade RFQs, developing internal costing strategies, supporting manufacturing planning, and crafting technically strong proposal documentation. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Sales, you will play a significant role in executing our client’s growth strategy within the nuclear sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Customer & Quotation Support

  • Thoroughly review RFQs, technical drawings, customer specifications, and QA requirements related to nuclear projects.
  • Collaborate with estimators to formulate cost models, labor calculations, material assumptions, and scheduling inputs.
  • Prepare detailed technical proposals, narrative responses, and comprehensive bid package documentation.
  • Identify risks, gaps, and uncertainties in customer specifications and recommend effective mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in bid reviews, pricing strategy development, and customer clarification efforts throughout the quotation process.
Engineering & Manufacturing Coordination
  • Engage with engineering, machining, welding, quality, and manufacturing planning teams to devise effective internal manufacturing strategies.
  • Convert customer requirements into actionable internal processes, technical instructions, and production planning inputs.
  • Participate in manufacturability and engineering change reviews, as well as strategic project planning sessions.
  • Support evaluation of reverse-engineering needs, commercial-grade dedication, and equipment qualification pathways.
Project & Technical Support
  • Review and assess large nuclear project packages including ASME code components, structural modules, precision-machined assemblies, and DOE/DOD hardware.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of nuclear compliance standards such as NQA-1, ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, and other related requirements.
  • Contribute to early-stage pursuit strategies, including risk analysis, technical solutions, and cost-driver identification.
Communication & Relationship Management
  • Provide expert technical support during customer engagements with utilities, EPCs, national laboratories, and government contractors.
  • Effectively present the company’s capabilities in machining, fabrication, engineering, and nuclear-grade quality programs.
  • Foster long-term customer relationships within the nuclear, DOE/DOD, and clean energy manufacturing landscapes.
  • Offer constructive feedback to enhance the quotation process, share lessons learned, and elevate the customer experience.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing, sales engineering, quoting, or technical project management, with a strong preference for experience in nuclear manufacturing or supply chain environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred; other engineering disciplines or equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Proficient technical writing skills, with proven experience in drafting proposals, narratives, and technical correspondence.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex drawings, specifications, and nuclear QA documentation.
  • Knowledgeable in nuclear compliance frameworks (NQA-1, Appendix B, ASME, AWS).
  • Exceptional communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across various departments and manage multiple simultaneous quotations.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer visits, project development, and industry events.
Why This Opportunity?
  • Become part of an innovative leader in advanced manufacturing that proudly serves nuclear, defense, aerospace, and energy markets.
  • Collaborate daily with skilled professionals in engineering, machining, and welding within a dynamic and high-skill environment.
  • Seize the chance to contribute to significant investments in company growth, state-of-the-art equipment, and workforce development.
  • Play a vital role in the supply chain essential to next-generation nuclear energy and national security initiatives.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and contribute to meaningful projects in the nuclear sector, we encourage you to apply!
