Title: Behavior Therapist- Registered Behavior Technician Trainee

Reports to: Clinical Director of the ABA Program


Department: 603- ABA Program


Location: Culver City, CA

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $17.28 per hour

Program Hours: Based on Clients' Needs: Mon - Fri 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Summary
This position prepares the candidate to become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), also known as a Behavior Therapist.

A Behavior Therapist (RBT) is a paraprofessional who implements behavior change interventions under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst. A Registered Behavior Technician is primarily responsible for direct 1:1 implementation of treatment plans related to skill acquisition and behavior reduction as well as data collection procedures. Skills targeted typically include communication, social, and daily living skills along with any other skills which make a socially significant change in the child's individual, family, and community life. A behavior therapist also provides support, feedback on session structure and practicality of program implementation. Children served vary in ages and are mostly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities.

Training will consist of:
  1. Completing a 40-hour online training course, with support from a qualified supervisor.
  2. Completing a Competency Assessment given by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  3. Passing the exam to become a Registered Behavior Technician.
  4. After becoming a Registered Behavior Technician, Trainee will work/train for an additional 50 hours, with clients.
  5. After successful completion of the program, Trainee will be re-classified as a regular Behavior Therapist- Registered Behavior Technician, and hourly rate will change accordingly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Complete the traineeship requirements successfully (95 hrs.) within 6 months; acceleration is determined by supervisor and documented in Traineeship Agreement. Demonstrate ability to: implement behavior plans with fidelity, collect data and daily notes documenting child's progress, and work with supervisor (give and receive feedback) on program implementation.


Other Duties

  • Attend team trainings and supervision sessions.
  • Comply with ECF's Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Licenses/Certifications: High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.


Experience: Some experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, teaching, psychology, mental health, or related fields. Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) preferred.


Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team and follow instructions of supervisor.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Maintain a professional image and courteous demeanor.
  • Obtain and maintain NCI, First Aid, Mandated Reporter, and CPR certification.

Requirements
  • Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, evidence of car insurance, and insurable driving record. Motorcycles are not permitted while driving for ECF, may only be used when commuting to and from your home to main worksite. If using public transportation only, driving requirements do not apply.
  • Pass a Department of Justice background investigation.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.

Work Environment

Work is conducted in the center. Employee may encounter individuals who are engaging in loud, repetitive, or aggressive behaviors varying in intensity and duration. Employee will have access to safeguards to ensure protection of self and child as well as continuous support from supervisors.
