DEPARTMENT: Quarry

PAY RANGE: $100,000 - $120,000 annually

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Mine Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the mine under the direction of the Mine Manager and Plant Manager. This role focuses on implementing operational plans, supervising mining activities, and ensuring the efficient extraction of limestone according to production demands. The Mine Superintendent plays a critical role in achieving operational targets, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing resource utilization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a mining operation, with direct experience in limestone mining highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of mining operations, safety regulations, and environmental management practices.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, train, and develop a productive mining workforce.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members, management, and external stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in mining software and technology, with a keen interest in applying innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Mine Manager in developing and executing the mine's operational plans, focusing on achieving production targets and optimizing mining processes.

  • Supervise daily mining activities, including drilling, blasting, extraction, and transportation of limestone, ensuring operations meet the quality and quantity requirements of the cement plant.

  • Oversee the coordination of mining operations to ensure the correct grades of limestone are mined according to production demands.

  • Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures among mining personnel, promoting a culture of safety and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Monitor and manage the performance of mining staff, providing leadership, training, and development opportunities to enhance skills and productivity.

  • Coordinate with the maintenance department to ensure that mining equipment and machinery are maintained in optimal working condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation.

  • Assist in managing the mine's budget, monitoring expenditures, and implementing cost-control measures to operate within financial targets.

  • Conduct regular inspections of mining areas to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and operational efficiency.

  • Compile and report operational data, including production volumes, operational costs, and safety incidents, to the Mine Manager for analysis and decision-making.

  • Participate in the planning for the life cycle of the mine, including input on exploration, development, and closure activities, to ensure long-term operational sustainability.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas.

  • Practice and promote safety in such a way as including but not limited to, assessing risks before starting tasks, only performing authorized activities, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Responsible for maintaining MSHA required documentation.

  • Manager will create a vision for the Sloan Quarry that includes development of the mine, maximization of waste to value streams, and long-term sustainability.

  • Manager will be accountable for delivery of product and feed stock to the plant.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical fitness to perform regular site visits, including walking, climbing, and lifting as needed.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) for safety compliance.

Work Environment

  • The Mine Superintendent will work primarily on-site at the mine to closely monitor operations and supervise mining activities. This role requires flexibility to work in different environmental conditions and adapt to varying work schedules, including potential night and weekend shifts to meet operational needs.
