Communications and Public Affairs The Communications and Public Affairs office keeps the public and our staff informed of the department’s services, projects, and programs through mass media, social media, websites, community meetings, and other outreach activities. The team produces reports, the monthly community and employee newsletters, and briefs elected officials and troubleshoots constituent concerns. The team also oversees media relations and organizes press conferences and special events to celebrate project milestones. Under supervision of the Manager of Public Affairs and Communications, you will participate in the high-impact, complex Islais Creek Bridge replacement project. Leading up to and during construction, you will be involved in extensive outreach for a major public infrastructure project impacting a key transportation corridor leading to and from the Bayview-Hunters Point and Indian Basin neighborhoods. Your contributions are important to provide exceptional customer service and perform effectively to meet crucial timelines. Important and Essential Duties: As a Public Information Officer, your duties may include but are not limited to the following: Provide timely and accurate information to San Francisco residents, businesses, community groups, elected officials, partner agencies, and other interest groups on the Islais Creek Bridge replacement project. Produce content for mailings, websites, social media posts, background briefings for department leadership, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations, and related materials. Respond to constituent inquiries and troubleshoot concerns. Conduct site visits and organize and/or attend community forums. Participate in project team meetings. Working Conditions: Nature of the work may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions, walking long distances, and driving a vehicle to project sites and meetings. May require work on nights, weekends, and/or holidays. How to qualify Minimum Qualifications: Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Two (2) years of professional experience in public affairs, public information, editorial, newspaper, magazine, radio, television, public relations, social media, digital engagement, advertising, or similar work involving collection and dissemination of news and information wherein the preparation or direction of informational material for mass media on the development of public information program was a major part of the position.
