SELECTION COMPONENTS: - Application Evaluation - The most qualified applicants will be invited to an online exam.
- Online Exam - Pass/Fail -Tentatively scheduled for the week of April 3, 2025 Top scoring applications who pass the online exam will be invited to a virtual interview.
- Interview - 100% of Overall Score - Tentatively scheduled for April 22, 2025 Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list and may be invited to begin the background process.
- Physical Agility Test (PAT) - Pass/Fail - Date to be announced.
The candidate selected for the position will undergo a thorough background investigation including a polygraph examination. Once a conditional job offer has been made, the candidate will undergo comprehensive medical and psychological examinations, including a urine drug screen, by City Medical Examiners. The Chief of Police will make the final hiring decision.
SCHEDULE: Custody Officers work 12-hour shifts.
RETIREMENT: The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 13% of pay towards their retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience : One year of experience requiring constant and responsible public contact, preferably in a law enforcement or correctional facility setting.
Education : Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. College level coursework in criminal justice or related field is highly desirable.
License(s): Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver's license and an acceptable driving record may be required.
Certificate(s): Completion of or ability to complete within 90 days of hire, P.C. 832 Powers of Arrest course.
Completion of BSCC Standards and Training for Corrections Core course (Jailer Academy) within 12 months of hire.
