University of Pittsburgh Physicians is hiring a full-time Staff or Senior Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to support the Pediatric Orthopaedics department. We are the primary pediatric orthopaedic department in the city with 8 fellowship trained pediatric orthopaedists. We see 35,000 patients a year. We see minor things such as sprains, etc to scoliosis, hip dysplasia, neuromuscular problems (CP spina bifida etc). We have sports medicine specialists, spine specialist and hip specialists. We have approximately 30 employees. Our APPs are here to specifically see patients. They see fractures, general pain complaints, strains, sprains. As stated above, they will return calls to parents on MRIs, staff the clinical phone line on a rotating basis. The schedule is Monday-Friday 40 hours per week. One night per week at the Orthopaedic Urgent Care is required (5-9pm). Previous experience is preferred.

The Staff APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Staff APP has responsibility, authority and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The Staff APP manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members. The role of the Staff APP encompasses the beginnings of leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Staff APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Staff APP begins to demonstrate a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.

Senior Level: 
The Senior Professional Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners and a member of the care delivery team. The Senior Professional APP is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care. The Senior Professional APP has responsibility and accountability for the provision of care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician. The role of the Senior Professional APP encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision. The Senior Professional APP establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care. The Senior Professional APP demonstrates a commitment to the community and to their healthcare profession.

Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances

PA:

  • A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required 
  • \n
  • BS or MS candidate is preferred 
  • \n
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred 
  • \n
  • Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required 
  • \n
  • Current CPR certification is required 
  • \n
  • Act 34 Clearance required 
  • \n
  • Act 33 Clearance will be required  
  • \n
  • Act 73 Clearance will be required 
  • \n
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required

  • BSN, MSN is preferred

  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred

  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required 
  • \n
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing

  • Current CPR certification is required

  • ACLS or ITLS or NALS or PALS or ACLS or other certifications listed must meet AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

OAPP: If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant and value added to the practice setting.
