About Families Forward:

What Youll Do:

As the Controller, youll be the financial backbone of the organization, overseeing everything from day-to-day accounting and grants management to strategic budgeting, audits, compliance, and team leadership. Youll work directly with the CFO and senior leadership to keep the organization fiscally strong and mission-aligned.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead full-cycle accounting and month-end close
Oversee budgeting, cash flow, and grant reporting
Ensure GAAP compliance and nonprofit regulatory reporting
Supervise and develop accounting staff
Partner with HR on payroll and benefits compliance
Manage audits, the 990, and restricted vs. unrestricted funds
Drive process improvements and internal controls
Represent finance in board and committee meetings
Supervise departmental staff by assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and supporting development to ensure efficient workflow.
Prepare and manage grant and billing packets, ensuring accuracy, compliance with funding requirements, and timely submission to internal and external stakeholders.

What You Bring:

Bachelors in Accounting or related field.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience (nonprofit a plus!)
A strategic, detail-oriented, and proactive mindset
Experience managing staff and juggling multiple priorities
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel); experience with Finance Edge or similar financial management software is a plus.
A genuine passion for service and community impact
