The Navigation and Communications Branch AFRL/RYWN, Sensors Directorate, seeks to hire a senior-level, DR-03/DR-04, General Engineer, Electronics Engineer, Computer Engineer, Mathematician, or Computer Scientist in Dayton, Ohio. The incumbent will serve as the Principal Investigator of the Navigation Warfare team.
Position duties include but are not limited to:
- Provides Navigation Warfare subject matter expertise and maintains awareness of state-of-the-art in Navigation Warfare.
- Provides technical direction to multiple, broad, critical, and highly-complex technology in-house programs and projects.
- Leads development and transition activities based upon customer interactions and appropriate partnerships.
- Works closely with peers throughout directorate to develop plans, programs, and roadmaps for branch work, working across organizational boundaries to assure accurate representation of technology in higher level organizational roadmaps.
- Reviews work of individual team members to ensure that it is adequate, timely, and meets objectives.
- Works with customers to define requirements.
- Uses judgment and ingenuity in making decisions and developing technologies for areas with substantial uncertainty.
- Reports progress to management and partners both verbally and in writing, communicating complex technical and programmatic information across multiple organizational levels to drive decisions by senior leaders.
- Coordinates with other government agencies, international governments (under sanctioned agreements), and higher echelons in areas of expertise.
- Additional duties as assigned.

- Position will be filled using occupational series within the scientist AND engineering career field.
- Applicants must be able to meet the OPM Qualification Standards of the position being filled.
- This position is only open to current DR-03 or DR-04 (or equivalent grade) level candidates for reassignment.

- Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret with access to SCI and SAP security clearance, as condition of employment.
- This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent will be subject to random testing.
- This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N); experience is 4 years;
- The selectee will have 60 months to meet APDP requirements or a waiver must be obtained. *Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications in their resume.
- Position is eligible for situational telework and will require routine mission travel, regular classified engagements, and in-person meetings that cannot always be scheduled around a regular/recurring telework schedule.
- Employee must live within the commuting area of Wright-Patterson AFB.
- Experience with coordination of Top Secret/SCI programs, projects, and facilities.
- Technical expertise in Global Navigation Satellite Technologies (GNSS).
- Significant experience in managing highly technical contracted projects.
- Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills for technical and senior leader audiences.
- Ability to perform TDY travel approximately 10% time
- PCS expenses, if authorized, will be paid IAW the JTR and Air Force regulations.
- Centrally managed PCS costs are paid by the Career Field Team. No DNRP authorized.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (desired) or PhD (preferred) in relevant technical field.
- Experience leading matrixed teams or Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
- Experience working with or within the DoD research community.
- Experience with Navigation Warfare reference sensor technology, reference system integration, and fusion techniques.
- Experience developing and maintaining large/complex technology portfolios.
- Successful track record of advocating for and receiving resources (funding, personnel, facilities, etc.)
- The ability to cultivate and sustain a professional environment of cooperation, cohesion, and teamwork.
- Experience with developing and maintaining close relationships with academia and other Government agencies.

The salary range for this position, including the Dayton, OH locality is: DR-03 $122,860 - $173,623; DR-04 $156,702 - $193,763
