Light Engineer (Full Time, Exempt)

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum has an opening for a full-time, exempt Light Engineer in the Events Department.

Company Overview: Located in the heart of downtown Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum documents and interprets the history of country music-a musical genre and culture central to the identity of the city, the state, and the nation. Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the museum proudly combines subject expertise, ambitious research, and preservation of an unparalleled collection with expressions of creativity in music, art, and history. The museum collects artifacts that illustrate the evolving history and traditions of country music and provides diverse learning opportunities through educational programs, publications, and exhibitions. The core exhibit follows the story of country music from its folk beginnings through its evolution as a commercial art form. Rotating exhibits examine a broad range of topics, from country classics to contemporary and emerging artists in American Currents. The museum owns Hatch Show Print, a letterpress print shop opened in 1879, and it operates Historic RCA Studio B, where Elvis Presley and many others recorded.

Position Overview: The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum Light Engineer is responsible for designing and implementing lighting setups for various productions, including stage performances, concerts, television shows, and corporate meetings. Their job involves collaborating with directors, producers, and other members of the production team to achieve the desired visual atmosphere. Overall, the Light Engineer plays a crucial role in shaping the visual presentation of a production through strategic lighting design and execution. The Light Engineer reports to our internal production department

Specific Job Duties Include:
  • Designing lighting plans: Creating lighting designs that enhance the mood, atmosphere, and visual aesthetics of a production while also considering technical and safety requirements.
  • Selecting equipment: Choosing appropriate lighting fixtures, bulbs, filters, and other equipment needed to achieve the desired lighting effects within budget constraints.
  • Rigging and installation: Overseeing the installation and setup of lighting equipment, including rigging lights, adjusting angles, and connecting electrical components.
  • Programming lighting cues: Programming and operating lighting consoles to execute pre-designed lighting cues during live performances or recording sessions.
  • Collaboration: Collaborating closely with directors, producers, set designers, and other crew members to ensure that lighting design aligns with the overall creative vision of the production.
  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and resolving technical issues related to lighting equipment, wiring, or programming during rehearsals or performances.
  • Safety compliance: Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and best practices for handling electrical equipment and rigging lighting fixtures to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Budget management: Managing the lighting department's budget, including expenses related to equipment rental, purchases, and maintenance.
  • Training and supervision: Providing guidance and supervision to lighting crew members, including electricians, technicians, and assistants, to ensure that lighting setups are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Keeping abreast of industry trends: Staying updated on the latest lighting technologies, techniques, and trends to continuously improve the quality and creativity of lighting designs.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
  • Knowledge of programming and operating MA2 and MA3 as well as HOG4 consoles.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, early mornings and/ or late evenings.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years live production industry on the job experience console operation for live events.
