The Instructional Designer drives meaningful change by partnering with business units to identify performance gaps, define learning objectives, and develop impactful learning solutions. Utilizing adult learning principles and innovative design methods, this role creates diverse learning experiences—including modules, courses, and large-scale curricula—to address business needs and support company initiatives in areas such as culture, compliance, technology, and leadership development. The Instructional Designer enhances employee competence, confidence, and advocacy, promoting a culture of continuous growth and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning Content Design & Development
- Collaborate with leadership and business SMEs to design engaging, high-quality learning materials for various delivery formats (e.g., instructor-led, online self-paced, virtual, blended).
- Develop comprehensive learning solutions, including integration of multimedia content, simulations, branching scenarios, games, web pages and resources using appropriate tools and technologies.
- Create and manage storyboards, scripts, and assessments for ranging from department/local focus to complex, enterprise level, large scale curriculums and programs.
- Ensure all learning content aligns with adult learning principles, theories, and best practices, incorporating visual design and accessibility standards.
- Continuously iterate and enhance learning experiences based on learner feedback, performance data, and evolving business needs to improve desired outcomes.
Consultation and Collaboration
- Partner with Learning and Development Performance Consultants to identify learning needs, define clear learning objectives, and design solutions that drive business outcomes.
- Consult with internal stakeholders up to the VP/Executive level, level to discover root cause of performance or learning gaps, identify learning outcomes to close those gaps, identify how success is measured, and recommend learning solutions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather content and ensure accuracy.
- Partner with Training Facilitation team, Strategic HR Advisors, Talent Acquisition, and department leaders to ensure alignment with organizational priorities and high impact opportunities.
- Mentor and coach design team members throughout collaborative projects fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation
- Conduct research to stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in instructional design and adult learning.
- Analyze learner feedback, evaluation data, and performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
- Develop and implement new instructional design processes and tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of learning solutions.
- Drive the adoption of new learning approaches or methodologies based on emerging research and trends.
- Research content to update, expand learning curriculum and add supplemental content
Evaluation & Implementation of Learning Solutions
- Develop and implement evaluation plans to measure the effectiveness and impact of training initiatives.
- Conduct Train-the-Trainer sessions with facilitators as appropriate so that others can deliver the content effectively and as designed.
- Partner with HRIS team to manage the deployment and maintenance of learning solutions within the Learning Management System (LMS).
- Manage all aspects of project documentation, tracking, and reporting to ensure clear communication of progress and outcomes.
Project Management and Operational Support
- Lead and manage multiple learning projects simultaneously, from initial discovery to final deployment, ensuring alignment with business timelines and goals.
- Develop project plans, set milestones, and coordinate with stakeholders to drive projects forward.
- Monitor project risks, identify potential issues, and implement solutions to ensure successful delivery.
- Maintain accurate project status in tracking tools and communicate progress to all relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications – Education & Experience:
- A minimum of 6 years of Instructional Design, Learning & Development with demonstrated experience developing effective, innovative, and interactive instructor-led training and/or workshops with a variety of learning materials and modalities required.
- A bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, or related field is required. In lieu of a degree, relevant experience or a combination of education and experience will be considered.
- A master’s degree in Instructional Design, Talent Development, Learning Design Technology, or related field is preferred.
- Strong experience in adult learning theory, learning needs/root cause analysis, and evaluating training effectiveness.
- Experience designing accessible learning materials that are Section 508 compliant.
- Knowledge preparing content for and publishing to an LMS.
Qualifications – Other Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:
- Demonstrated experience developing effective, innovative, and scenario-based eLearning using development applications such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, etc.
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative products (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere)
- Proficiency with web and app development using as HTML5, JavaScript, CSS, WordPress, Unity, etc. preferred.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual team software such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom
- Proficiency with video and audio editing software such as PowToon or Vyond.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job the employee may be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. May be required to bend, twist, reach, push, pull, and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. Specific work assignments may change without notice. Working Conditions:
- Most work will be performed in a climate-controlled environment.
- Hybrid work/remote arrangement
- Occasional travel up to 20%
