Emerson College's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) is looking for a part-time law clerk to, under attorney supervision, review and propose edits for affiliation agreements, assist with legal research, perform other legal work, and help generally support the office's operations. This position will independently manage and track assignments to ensure that they are prioritized and completed in accordance with stated prioritization goals.

Additionally, there will be developmental opportunities to work on longer and more complex projects, such as policy benchmarking and drafting, and work on other special projects for the office. This position requires strong judgment, appropriate legal training, attention to detail, excellent drafting and writing skills, and an ability to manage project prioritization independently. The law clerk position is a great opportunity for a current law student to gain real-world experience in an in-house legal practice.

Please submit a cover letter sharing why you are interested in working with the OGC along with a resume to be fully considered. Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis until this position is filled.

Responsibilities include:
  • Review, propose edits for, and escalate questions concerning affiliation agreements or other contracts in accordance with OGC guidelines.
  • Conduct legal research and benchmarking as assigned to support the general legal work of the OGC.
  • Research, benchmark, draft, and revise policies in accordance with direction from the Deputy General Counsel and other stakeholders.
  • Work under the oversight of OGC attorneys on other useful and skill-appropriate assignments.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records, notes, and documentation of meetings, including follow-up action items using appropriate discretion.
  • Perform other routine administrative tasks, such as document review or administrative office work, to support the OGC's current priorities.

Qualifications/Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Law degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having successfully completed at least one year of study, with a preference for a 1L or 2L law student who plans to work for the office for one or more semesters.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail required
  • Knowledge working with various Google Suite and Microsoft Office platforms, e.g. Excel, Google Slides, etc.
  • Ability to multi-task competing and time-sensitive priorities and a willingness to be agile in supporting OGC operations.
  • As this is a Hybrid position, candidates must live within the greater Boston area and be willing to report for work in-person as needed. A significant portion of this work may be performed remotely and on a flexible schedule, subject to prior approval.
  • Candidates must have good professional judgment, exercise discretion, and abide by OGC confidentiality expectations.

This is a part-time position, between 15-19 hours per week at an hourly rate of $20.

Grade of Position: T01N

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 19.00

In addition to a competitive salary, Emerson College is committed to the health and well-being of our employees and family members. We offer a generous benefits package to regular staff scheduled to work 20+ hours per week.
