Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:


1. Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or


university;


2. Valid Texas certification as a Vision Teacher - preferred;


3. Valid certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist as granted by


the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education


Professionals (ACVREP);


4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;


5. Knowledge of special needs of students with vision impairments;


6. Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee


process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and


implementation;


7. Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation.


8. Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:


Probationary/Term Contract: 187 Days

SALARY:


Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees






Additional stipend as approved

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


1. Teach visually impaired students to develop the skills and knowledge required to enable


them to travel safely and independently.


2. Transport students to diverse locations to teach practical travel skills in realistic


environments.


3. Evaluate visually impaired students for orientation and mobility needs and determines


eligibility for services.


4. Participate in the admission, review, and dismissal (ARD) committee to assist in


interpretation of assessment data, appropriate placement, and goal setting for students with


visual impairments according to district procedures.


5. Plan and provide appropriate individual and group instruction to students consistent with


orientation and mobility goals contained in individual education plans (IEP).


6. Tracks student progress and use evaluative finding to examine program effectiveness and


make recommendations for change when appropriate.


7. Modifies and collects materials to teach and explain specific concepts and mobility skills to


the visually impaired student.


8. Consults with the multi-disciplinary team to ensure the safety of the visually impaired


student and reinforce appropriate orientation and mobility skills throughout the day.


9. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other


documents required.


10. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule,


and the local board.


11. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


1. Tools / Equipment used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.


2. Posture: Frequent, prolonged standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing and twisting.


3. Motion: Frequent walking and dancing.


4. Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move dance equipment, props, text books, classroom equipment, etc.


5. Environment: Frequent exposure to sun, heat, cold, and will be expected to work outside. Frequent exposure to noise.


6. Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent travel and frequent travel by school bus.
