CDC has a full-time opportunity for a Health Educator at our St. Paul. This position provides oral health education and preventive services to children and families in our clinics, as well as in outreach locations.

Health Educator Responsibilities:

  • Enroll children 0-12 and pregnant mothers in the Program to Improve Community Oral Health (PICOH) program
  • Provide one-on-one education and motivational behavior change coaching to parents, pregnant mothers and children regarding good oral hygiene practices and basic nutrition.
  • Provide phone call and in person follow-up coaching and education to program participants.
  • Support dental hygienists, acting as a clinical assistant, as part of the outreach school based sealant program team.
  • Make outreach phone calls to schedule patients for follow up appointments in the clinic.
  • Collect data on services provided and record relevant information for grant and evaluation purposes
  • Initiate patient charts and document chart notes in open dental electronic health records
  • Assist with set up, disinfection, tear down and maintenance of sealant program equipment
  • Bag and prepare instruments for sterilization
  • Inform parents of screening results in writing and/or by phone

Hours:

  • Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5pm

Health Educator Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years patient care experience or customer service
  • Dental, health education and/or public health experience desired, but not required
  • Interest in oral health care/dental care
  • Experience working with culturally diverse communities
  • Experience working with children and families
  • Desire to help people learn about and practice good health habits
  • Ability to quickly adapt within a fast-paced work environment
  • CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Proficiency in a second language desired, such as Karen or Spanish
  • Proficient with electronic forms of communication, including e-mail correspondence
