Job Description

Job Description

Healthcare quality is declining and soaring costs are crushing American families and businesses. At Garner, we've developed a revolutionary approach to evaluating doctor performance and a unique incentive model that's reshaping the healthcare economy to ensure everyone can afford high quality care. By providing organizations relief from surging healthcare costs, we've experienced rapid adoption in the market and have more than doubled our revenue annually over the last 5 years, becoming the fastest growing company in our space. To support our continued growth, we're expanding our team by over 50% each year, seeking exceptional talent to shape our unique, award winning culture (for example, USA Today Top Workplaces 2025) designed to cultivate teamwork, trust, autonomy, exceptional results, and individual growth that creates an inflection point in your career.

About the Role & The Engineering Team

Are you ready to build the future of healthcare? We are seeking a talented and driven Full-Stack Engineering Intern to join our inaugural internship program. As a core member of our engineering team, you will not only write code but also contribute directly to our mission: to transform the healthcare economy and deliver high-quality, affordable care for all. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience by building and launching features that impact real people. You will work alongside a passionate, multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and product managers who value courageous communication and expect extraordinary results.

In this role, you will be deeply integrated into a fast-paced, agile team. Your efforts will directly contribute to building the systems we need to keep up with customer demand and enhance our core applications. We believe in empowering our interns to take ownership and solve meaningful problems. Your work will directly impact our members by improving their experience in finding top doctors and managing their medical claims, ensuring they get the care they deserve.

Career Opportunity: Select interns will be offered full-time roles upon successful completion of the program.

A Day in the Life

Your day will be dynamic and collaborative. You might start your morning by contributing to a front-end feature that improves the user interface for our members. After lunch, you could be working on the back-end, building a new API or optimizing a database query to improve performance. You will actively participate in code reviews, sharing your insights and learning from others. You will also have the opportunity to engage in problem-solving sessions with senior engineers and team leads, where your unique perspective will be valued.

Responsibilities

Build Features: Design, build, and launch new features for our core applications using modern front-end and back-end technologies.

Enhance Performance: Write clean, efficient code and improve the overall quality and scalability of our app.

Collaborate Effectively: Work across disciplines with product, design, and other engineering teams to iterate on new ideas and deliver a seamless user experience.

Ensure Security: Apply secure coding practices to protect user data and privacy, upholding our commitment to security.

Support the Product: Assist in the maintenance and support of our applications in a production environment.

Core Competencies & Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who is driven by curiosity and a desire to make a real impact. If you are eager to learn and ready to tackle complex challenges, we encourage you to apply.

Problem-Solving: You love breaking down complex problems and finding elegant solutions. You approach challenges with a sense of curiosity and a "first-principles" mindset, rather than accepting existing playbooks at face value.

High-Challenge, High-Growth Mindset: You are excited by ambitious goals and are comfortable with a fast-paced environment where you can stretch your abilities and grow. You demonstrate a proactive approach, identifying areas for improvement and taking initiative.

Ownership & Impact: You are a self-starter who takes ownership of your work, from ideation to deployment. You are motivated by the end-user impact and understand how your work contributes to the company's mission.

Courageous Communication: You are able to articulate your ideas clearly, listen to feedback, and engage in honest, constructive dialogue. You are comfortable discussing technical concepts with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Technical Aptitude: You have a solid foundation in computer science fundamentals and a basic understanding of both front-end (e.g., JavaScript, React) and back-end (e.g., Python, Node.js) technologies. Familiarity with databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Docker) is a plus.

Teamwork: You thrive in a collaborative environment and are excited to work with a diverse group of people to achieve a common goal.

Where you will work:

This role will be based in our New York City office. You must be willing to work in the office 3 days per week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
