Fleet Manager - Join Our Dynamic Team at A National Transit!

About Us: With over 35 years in the transportation industry, A National Transit has a rich history of delivering safe and reliable transportation services nationwide. We are looking for a seasoned Fleet Manager to lead our maintenance team and ensure our fleet's operational excellence.

Location: This position is on-site and is not remote.

Role Overview: As the Fleet Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the maintenance and repair of all vehicles and equipment, ensuring that our fleet meets the highest standards of safety and efficiency. You will lead a dedicated team of mechanics and maintenance personnel, driving excellence in every aspect of fleet management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Leadership & Coordination:
    • Plan, coordinate, and direct the activities and operations of fleet maintenance.
    • Develop, implement, and maintain fleet maintenance goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
    • Lead orientation, training, and evaluation programs for all fleet maintenance personnel.
    • Identify and resolve staff deficiencies, and implement disciplinary procedures as needed.
    • Foster a positive working relationship with team members, including GM and executive staff.
    • Motivate and lead a diverse team, ensuring high levels of performance and morale.
  • Operational Excellence:
    • Oversee and maintain a computerized maintenance program.
    • Direct the preparation and maintenance of various reports, records, and files related to vehicle inspections, maintenance, repairs, and personnel.
    • Ensure the shop area, equipment, and materials are safe, clean, and orderly.
    • Manage the acquisition, utilization, repair, preventative maintenance, and replacement of all vehicles.
    • Ensure adherence to established safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Financial & Administrative:
    • Participate in the forecast of necessary funds for staffing, materials, and supplies.
    • Prepare and oversee the fleet maintenance budget.
    • Coordinate purchases to comply with equipment and vehicle specifications.
    • Prepare and present staff reports and other necessary documents to appropriate boards and committees.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Coordinate response for emergency needs and ensure timely road calls and on-the-road repairs.
    • Be available and flexible to work all shifts with start times between 2 am and 4 pm, supporting a 24/7 operation.

Experience & Qualifications:
  • Required:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the public or private sector.
    • Strong knowledge of Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Paratransit regulations, and National Transit Database (NTD).
    • Proven ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with employees and customers.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proven leadership abilities with the capability to motivate and manage a team.
    • Highly organized and efficient in managing tasks and responsibilities.
  • Preferred:
    • Minimum of five years of recent experience managing a fleet of 70 buses or more.
    • Experience in developing, implementing, and maintaining a qualified maintenance program.
    • Completion of Automotive Service Excellence certifications (A1-A9, H8) or equivalent manufacturer training.
  • Education:
    • A bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required.
