Design a career and build your future... Because it matters! McMillen is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with expertise in Fire Protection / Life Safety Systems Engineering . The position can be based in . McMillen is also open to this position being filled remotely with the right candidate that has excellent communication and time management skills. Preferable applicants will have passed the NCEES examination for Fire Protection Engineering. The position will perform a variety of assignments in code and life safety analysis, hazard assessment, fire suppression system design, fire alarm design, in-field building evaluations, report writing, water supply analysis, hydraulic calculations, battery and voltage drop calculations, and coordination with other trades. Applicants should be familiar with other engineering disciplines and able to effectively communicate and coordinate with other engineering disciplines. Experience with construction specifications, cost estimating, and scheduling for mid to large-scale projects is preferred. Knowledge & application of building codes and standards is critical to the position. Applicant should be familiar with International Building Code, International Fire Code, NFPA standards Codes and Standards, Unified Facilities Criteria, and FM Global Data Sheets. Position will require knowledge of fire suppression systems including, but not be limited to, automatic sprinkler system, standpipe system, hybrid fire suppression systems, wet and dry chemical extinguishing system, CO 2 extinguishing systems, and Clean agent extinguishing systems. Knowledge of Fire Alarm systems and manufacturers equipment Position will require knowledge of fire alarm systems including but not be limited to, intelligent and conventional fire alarm systems, different types and application of fire detection, means of notification and intelligibility, integration of releasing panels, device monitoring, compliant circuiting practices, programming review, and comprehensive acceptance testing. Design experience with intrusion detection and access control systems, CCTV, and hazardous gas detection is a plus. Responsibilities: As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer working with our teams, you’ll use your skills and experience to help our clients, by providing life safety and code analysis, code-compliant asset protection and fire life safety mitigation solutions. You will be expected to both provide guidance to co-workers and receive solutions from various senior design professionals so that you can take ownership of various projects as the engineer of record. Solutions entail fire suppression system(s) based on the space and code requirements, detection, water supply evaluation, releasing control panels, signal reporting, and fire alarm system interface. Additional expertise would include smoke modeling, and explosion prevention. You will interface directly with client counterparts in the designing of their facilities and state and local code officials. Design fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, smoke and leak detection. Using the various applicable Life Safety & Fire codes, best practices, and industry standards, you will provide calculations; equipment size and quantities; equipment and construction specifications. . Perform a range of design development, analysis or review tasks under minimal supervision. Generate complete design specifications of more complex projects. Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications. Direct interface and liaison with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities, design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications. Conduct site visits, investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations. Verify and comply with engineering documentation standards and test procedures. Support development of technical proposal and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work. Develop engineering deliverables, scope of work, budget (engineering hours) and schedule Qualifications: Fire Protection Engineering experience and licensure as a fire protection engineer having passed the NCEES examination for Fire Protection Engineering. Bachelors degree in Fire Protection Engineering, or related engineering/scientific field and at least 5 years of job-related experience or equivalent. Must have experience in major aspects of commercial, military, and industrial fire protection, code and life safety evaluation, and familiarity with major codes and standards, including: NFPA suppression system standards (water, foam, foam-water, hybrid, clean agent, gaseous) DOD and/or DOE ICC FM Global Data Sheets Electric generating plants (hydroelectric) Battery energy storage systems Flammable and combustible liquids Performance based design Must be able to communicate complex ideas clearly and in a manner readily understood by stakeholders outside the fire protection profession Must be able to write clearly and succinctly Must be able to engage stakeholders (client, authority, management) in discussions related to fire and life safety issues and clearly communicate Good communications and analytical skills; working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance Due to nature of the work, candidate must be US Citizen.
