Description Position Functions/Purpose: Direct and manage the overall orchestra program for the school(s) assigned. Prepare for individual and group student performances. Comply with all state and DISD requirements.
Major Responsibilities: - Direct and supervise all school orchestra performances, including concerts, orchestra, soloists, andsmall ensembles.
- Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in orchestra.
- Provide for orchestra participation in curricular and extracurricular events, including concerts.
- Comply with federal and state laws and State and Local Board of Education policy.
- Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
- Coordinate fundraising activities and manage funds according to Local Board policy.
- Maintain current inventory of all fixed assets within department.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Establish and maintain open communication by utilizing available technology and conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Develop and implement plans for improvement and growth of orchestra program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
- All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.
- Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel throughout the district is integral to this job. A remote working environment /alternate work arrangement is not an option for campus-based employees/campus-based positions because regular and punctual attendance at the worksite and performing all duties at the worksite are essential job duties for all campus-based personnel.
Qualifications - Bachelor'sDegree from an accredited university; valid Texas teacher certificate withrequired endorsements for subject and subject level assigned.
- Must have experience or demonstrated a desire to work in an urban school district.
- Demonstrate understanding and ability to teach students with multiple learning styles and abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to teach students using best-practice instructional strategies and proven pedagogy.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budget and interpret policy, procedures, and data.
- Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable of state and local policies governing orchestra.
- Knowledgeable of overall operation of orchestra program and abreast of current program-specific technology.
- Demonstrated flexibility to cope with the challenges of a rapidly changing world
- Demonstrated willingness to remain current with the latest developments in the profession
