About the position: The Directional Drill Locator is responsible for operating and maintaining directional drilling equipment to install underground fiber optic cables. Your expertise in drilling techniques and knowledge of fiber optic installation will be critical in ensuring the successful completion of projects. The main construction office is based out of Port Clinton. We do have construction sites in that area but we also have construction sites all over Toledo and a good portion of the east side of Ohio.
What you will do: - Operate and maintain directional drilling equipment to install fiber optic cables underground.
- Perform pre-drilling surveys to determine the appropriate drilling path and identify potential obstacles or hazards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to plan and execute directional drilling projects.
- Follow project specifications and blueprints to accurately position and drill holes for fiber optic cable installation.
- Monitor drilling operations and adjust parameters as necessary to ensure precision and accuracy.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of drilling equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols during drilling operations to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during drilling operations.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and project progress.
- Collaborate with the installation team to assist with fiber optic cable pulling, splicing, and testing activities as needed.
Qualifications: - Proven experience as a Directional Drill Operator in the telecommunications or utility industry.
- In-depth knowledge of directional drilling techniques and equipment.
- Familiarity with fiber optic cable installation and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret project specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to drilling equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in various weather conditions and challenging environments.
- This job will include 80% travel. You will receive per diem and hotel stays for those weeks you are traveling.
- Overtime is required and you must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays dependent on the job and the company's needs.
- Able to perform night maintenance and emergency callouts.
