Job Title: Data Center Administrator

Reports to: Technical Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Region: National

Division: Data Center Operations: SmartHands

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the customer’s Data Center Manager (or equivalent) and the Technical Manager, the Data Center Administrator will contribute to the day-to-day operations associated with operating and maintaining customer environment. Lead local resources in installation, provisioning, and provide initial configuration of resources supporting the data center function, such as routers, switches, servers, power distribution, and cabling.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Key Responsibility:

• Manage customer’s data center operations and execute various projects.

• Management of customer’s in-house staff to accomplish goals.***

• Oversee Infrastructure operations support on a 24x7 basis, with on-call support during off hours for initial disruptions, outages, and incidents.

• Provide project management for strategic department-wide initiatives, inclusive of effort, timeline, cost, resource allocation, vendor selection/management, solution delivery, and implementation.

• Manage the installation and structured cabling infrastructure projects.

• Provide Data Center infrastructure requirements from clients.

• Maintain existing hardware list using Data Center Information Management (DCIM) tool.

• Monitor IT infrastructure and networking with current tool set

• Ensure data center compliance with industry standards. 

• Assist with the planning and deployment of infrastructure security measures.

• Assist with developing short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements

• Responsible for lifecycle and management of technical and operational risks.

• Maintain regular written and virtual communication with client.

• Build a culture of pro-activity, business cooperation, continuous improvement, and exceptional service delivery.

• Coordinating the upgrading internal system components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and network cables.

• Create and maintain standard operating procedures based on client, facility, and Client’s standards.

• Coordinate inventory control. Validate received products to packing slip and reports discrepancies.

• Manage facility access***

• Maintain high level of customer satisfaction.

• Actively participate during the service transition phase to perform knowledge transfer and documentation

• Record time and materials used.

• Accept, fulfill, and report status via the ticketing system, time reports, and email processes.

• Validation root cause analysis.

• May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• A minimum of Five (5) years of related data center experience.

• Knowledge of server hardware, operating systems, and network infrastructure.

• Experience with Intel systems, Windows Server, VMware, and external storage.

• Good understanding of the OSI model

• Strong leadership, organizational, reporting, and project management skills

• Ability to conduct clear and concise communication in English (written and verbal).

• Must be customer centric and work under aggressive timelines.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.

• CompTIA, A+, BICSI or similar certification is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required to read small printed materials and a computer screen; including close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must possess alertness and stamina to perform daily duties and work indoors. The work requires moderate physical exertion with long periods of standing; frequent walking; frequent bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; occasional lifting/moving of items up to 25 pounds (unassisted) and up to 50 pounds (assisted). Hearing and speech communication in person and over the telephone is essential to fulfilling the duties of this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee is frequently required to work in a 24x7 data center environment where noise levels can be louder than experienced in normal office settings. The work requires frequent adjustment from hot to cold temperatures. Employee must be available for on-call matters during evening and weekend hours to respond to emergencies.

Engagement terms:

  • Location: Sparks, NV 89437
  • Hourly rate: $30-40/hr. ONLY on 1099 basis.
  • Candidates should require having a Professional and general liability insurance that is typical of an independent contractor for 1099. It is quite cheap and easy to get this insurance.
