A creative technologist at Deeplocal will use a combination of software skills, an eye for design, care for the user experience, and general understanding of technology on a wide variety of consumer-facing projects to create unique experiences for brands like Google, Microsoft, Netflix, Torani, and others. You’ll work in close collaboration with members from other engineering disciplines and the creative team. Creative technology is truly at the intersection of design, experience, and engineering at Deeplocal, and you will have the opportunity to influence all aspects of the experiences you will work on.

A Creative Technologist II is an early career role that primarily supports projects in production via software development, research, installation, and monitoring. This role will be contributing heavily and directly to projects in production so that they develop skills to move into more of a leadership role. A Creative Technologist II will have several projects that they have helped bring from beginning to end and they understand how their contribution affects deadlines and the final product. 

Responsibilities

Project Tasks

• Performs software development with some supervision and peer review, delivers quality code
• Owns larger components with minimal direction
• Has the capability to own an entire project or exhibit of a certain size with some oversight.
• Works on projects or components of projects. Architecture and planning will be provided by the project leads, but CT II may contribute input or drafts.
• Assist with on-site installation work and maintenance
• Document things that can be used to get code running.
• Performs QA and user experience testing and basic configuration of software packages.

General contributions and expectations

• Research and prototype proposed solutions by the project lead
• Contribute to creative ideation and concept creation during early project phases as needed
• Escalate things to project lead as needed
• Actively working to build skills in software platforms and general creative technology knowledge

Required Skills

• Strong development skills.
  • Expert level with at least one language and framework and strong experience with others
  • Able to help level 1 solving specific problems
  • Owns solutions with little need for any escalation
  • Can define integration points with other disciplines (Integration and EE)
• Strong communication skills. Can be client facing on site. Escalates significant issues to project leads.
• Familiarity with getting software to communicate with hardware components (inputs and outputs - microcontrollers, sensors, screens, etc)
• Self directed problem solving capabilities and eager to learn new skills
• Competent developer that delivers clean code
• Has full-stack experience with some frontend and backend work. Primarily focused on building skills in one software platform but has general knowledge of 1 or 2 others.
• Expectation that senior developers will review and sign off on code contributions.
• Friendly and able to work well with clients
• Creative thinker, collaborator, and problem solver

Preferred Skills

• Computer Science degree or equivalent 
• Typical, but not required years of experience: 2-5yrs
• Experience in creative software development; including generative graphics, programmatic motion design or programmatic sound design.
• Excited by new challenges and never-been-done-before work (Visit deeplocal.com/work for examples of Deeplocal projects.)
• Experience with one or more AI development (LLMs, Stable Diffusion, etc.)
• Experience with creative development platforms such as Unreal Engine, TouchDesigner, Three.js
• Experience with React and Node.js 

Location

Pittsburgh-based with hybrid flexibility due to needs to directly interact with hardware.
