Description:

The Creative Director at INDUSTRY, is an expert in design, authentic brand expression and art direction. They will set the idea, tone, and plan for brand initiatives, and are the leader in delivering unique content creation. This is an essential role in the strategy, conception and design of beautiful content and services. They bring exceptional creative thought and craft output, developing and delivering projects from brief to end user. While partnering with Account leads, they will be a primary creative contact for INDUSTRY’s clients, and will contribute to both conceptual thinking, and hands-on making of experiences. They focus in seasonal campaigns, brand initiatives and brand communication expertise – they define, design and develop.

This in an exempt full-time position in office based in Portland, Oregon. As of 2025, the Creative Director will report directly to the Executive Creative Director, while working collaboratively with all internal teams.

Responsibilities:

• Innately understands and can articulate INDUSTRY’s offerings and expertise
• Delivers best-in-class in communication, photography, video, and branded storytelling
• Works collaboratively with other in-house or client-side interdisciplinary designers, marketing teams, brand and product managers
• Define and articulate brand design direction collaborating with both internal and client teams to ensure solutions bring brands to life
• Leads and supports client team presentations and speaks to detail of design solutions with client and internal teams
• Leads and participates in regular team-wide brainstorms and creative reviews
• Synthesizes large amounts of client input and condenses into actionable opportunities and insights
• Inspires and embraces challenges and new ways of thinking and sets a unique, authentic tone for the brand
• Creates and manages original, persuasive, conceptually compelling work for campaigns content and experience
• Ability to lead and own projects with minimal oversight while fostering collaboration among project teams
• Ensure creative solutions are both compelling and strategically aligned with client needs by clearly articulating relevance and appropriateness to client brands
• Actively participates and inform project resourcing, approach and sequencing – keeping client goals, internal goals and collaborative attitude throughout
• Embrace a culture of continuous learning and exploration ensuring teams feel empowered to challenge conventional thinking and explore new creative avenues

Requirements:

• 7+ years of creative direction experience within the design industry, specifically on the agency side.
• Strong leadership skills with experience managing and inspiring a team of diverse, talented creatives, fostering collaboration and innovation.
• Expert understanding of brand storytelling, communication design, and the ability to develop compelling marketing/advertising campaigns—from vision and messaging to final production.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to lead large client work sessions, engage key stakeholders, and effectively present to various client teams.
• Detail-oriented, ensuring precision in production files, asset generation, and overall design execution.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and PowerPoint/Keynote for presentations.
• Ability to balance strategic thinking, conceptual development, art direction, and hands-on design execution.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a collaborative, team-player attitude, adaptable to a small team where members wear multiple hats to achieve goals.
• Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks, set up meetings, and meet deadlines and project milestones.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed, with varying frequency depending on projects.
• Must be available to work in-office in Portland, Oregon, for the duration of the contract (relocation opportunity available).
