Position Summary: This position is responsible for the delivery of First Call’s Sober ME treatment program to Municipal Drug Court participants. The job of the Court Services Counselor is to conduct daily groups, weekly individual sessions, and ongoing treatment/discharge planning for clients. This role requires a dedication to justice-involved individuals and their success in the Kansas City Municipal Drug Court program; programming to be conducted on-site at Healing House.

Major Functions

  1. Facilitate individual counseling, groups, and coordinate referrals to and from other community providers.
  2. Conduct appropriate assessments, develop treatment plans, and complete discharge summaries in collaboration with program participants.
  3. Prepare and organize all classroom materials for Sober ME classes.
  4. Maintain professional and clinical knowledge of the field by attending training required for credentialing, and maintaining professional certifications and licenses as required.
  5. Collect necessary data from participants and complete reports as scheduled.
  6. Cultivate working relationships with providers and other community agents while representing First Call in a professional manner.
  7. Respect client rights by maintaining confidentiality, completing training in cultural competencies, and communicating with clients in a manner which is supportive of the recovery process.
  8. Act as a collaborative and faithful partner to the Kansas City Municipal Drug Court
  9. Primarily based at Healing House, but some in-town and out-of-town travel may be required to complete position responsibilities.

    1. Work hours will include recurring weekly activities outside of standard business hours.
  11. Other duties as deemed appropriate for the fulfillment of the mission of First Call; including but not limited to backup crisis call coverage or front desk coverage.
Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Social Services/related field or MAADC II preferred; consideration given to relevant professional experience
  2. Minimum of 2 years’ experience in substance abuse field; trained in Trauma-Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing
  3. Demonstrated success in facilitating groups
  4. Well-developed written and oral communication skills
  5. Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established deadlines
  6. Experience serving justice-involved individuals is preferred
  7. Certification (MAADC II) required within six months of hire date

Working Conditions

  1. The First Call main office is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Thursday, with remote work and a closed building on Fridays. Employees are given up to 1 hour for lunch and/or breaks each day. First Call values flexibility; as such, employee schedules and locations for work throughout the week will be determined by the needs of their position and set in consultation with their direct supervisor.
  2. Access to reliable personal transportation is required in order to meet expectations for service delivery throughout a six-county area.
Salary Range $45,000 - $52,000, Depending on experience and education.
