POSITION TITLE: Cougars Promoting Mental Health Project Coordinator

DEPARTMENT: Student Life

POSITION STATUS: Full-Time (12 month)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Vice President for Catholic Culture and Student Life

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Vice President, the Project Coordinator provides leadership, management, and strategic direction for the education and training of all employees and students about mental health and substance abuse issues in the Franciscan and Catholic traditions of faith and reason. The Project Coordinator works directly with the University Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and leads the University Advisory Council, made up of employees, students, and outside partners. Must demonstrate willingness and ability to support and actively contribute to the Catholic and Franciscan mission and values of the university. This is a grant-funded, full-time, benefit-eligible position.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

* Educate employees and students on mental health issues and substance abuse in a manner that enhances the likelihood of increasing campus knowledge of those targeted areas.

* Provide mental health and substance abuse workshops and other trainings for students, faculty, and staff to improve competencies and knowledge in both areas.

* Create suicide awareness and prevention trainings on campus to reduce the potential for suicidal behavior.

* Identify and implement appropriate programing/outreach activities specific to the grant.

* Prepare status and progress reports of ongoing outreach activities completed towards Suicide Prevention efforts.

* Establish and maintain ongoing partnership with key local agencies for future collaboration towards program development.

* Collect data and compile reports to support the achievement of the measurable goals associated with the implementation and success of the grant.

* Participate in educational trainings, such as QPR (Question, Persuade and Refer), to better assist students, faculty, and staff on dealing with mental health issues.

* Become a trainer for QPR to promote suicide awareness and prevention beyond the time of the grant.

* Participate in the University BIT.

* Collaborate with the university counselor on case management to identify ongoing or new trends.

* Minimal travel within the Fort Wayne community, Allen County, and Indiana to interact with partners in the suicide prevention program.

* Travel to an approved conference for professional development once per year.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

* Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or public health required.

Experience

* Minimum of two years of clinical experience, preferably with college students.

* Minimum of one year experience providing trainings and workshops.

* This position requires good organizational skills and the ability to work independently and communicate clearly, both in public and in writing.

* Should be knowledgeable on current mental health and suicide trends.

* Basic knowledge on data collection and analysis is also required.
