Mortgage Underwriters are detailed-oriented people who will thrive in a time sensitive and sophisticated environment. Underwriters provide support to the Mortgage Underwriting Officer, Mortgage Origination Team Leaders, and Lenders. They proactively work with lenders and clients to analyze home equity mortgage application files to determine product qualifications, while ensuring documentation collected and calculations meet internal policy and ensure compliance standards are being met.

PROVIDE ENHANCED CLIENT SERVICE

This position is a key source of providing outstanding client service by displaying a positive demeanor, crafting innovative solutions to sophisticated problems and possessing capability of managing change. They will actively promote and refer appropriate products and services focusing on our client’s needs. Understand and account for the time sensitive nature of the mortgage process working to exceed the client’s goals and expectations. They must be willing to and successfully collaborate with other team members.

FOCUS ON ACCURACY AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL

A Mortgage Underwriter reviews documentation for residential real estate loans preparing files for ultimate decision. Collaborates with lenders, clients, administrative staff and management to ensure that accurate documentation has been received and analyzed for qualification. Works to clear deficiencies and exceptions. Accountable to individual and team service standards, policies and procedures. Without sacrificing accuracy, this position requires excellent time management, the ability to appropriately prioritize efforts and a focus on timeliness in a fast-paced work environment.

SEEK PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITITES

Seek out opportunities to advance knowledge of rules and regulations that impact the residential mortgage lending process, both internal and external. Monitors industry and compliance changes and advancements. Advancement in this career may include demonstration of outstanding loan underwriting abilities, proven leadership, training new department employees, may act as a back up to the team leader and/or team leader promotion.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to perform each crucial job requirement satisfactorily and a skills inventory is listed below. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Secondary education with related experience preferred. A criminal background check will be conducted.   • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret documents. Possesses professional communication and interpersonal skills to write and speak effectively both one-on-one and before groups of clients or employees of the organization. Ability to communicate to clients directly and effectively.
  • TECHNOLOGY SKILLS: Ability to utilize telephone systems and possess good digital literacy including email, internet and intranet use, Prior experience or the ability to learn core transaction system, Empower, statement processing system, and any other computer programs pertinent to performing job duties.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to solve exciting problems involving several variables in a standardized situation.
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully fulfil this position.

This position operates professionally in an office environment with considerable time spent at a desk using office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. Noise level is moderate with constant communication and interactions with others. Ability to travel on occasion to all market areas and attend seminars or training sessions offsite.
