Chief Estimator - Structural Steel Erection - Akron, Ohio

Gryphon Oakwood is currently working on a Chief Estimator role in structural steel erection specialising on Industrial and Commercial Projects in Akron and surrounding areas. You will be responsible for leading estimation and the final oversight of all projects.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of structural steel and proficiency with estimating software
• Minimum of 3 years estimating experience in Structural Steel / Heavy Construction
• Proven ability to lead teams and make sound, project-focused decisions
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and BlueBeam
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively at all organizational levels
• Strong documentation and record-keeping abilities
• Highly motivated, self-directed, and proactive
• Solid analytical skills with a strong foundation in mathematics

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate pricing estimates, manage bid submissions, and maintain client relationships
• Lead a team of estimators in compiling and reviewing comprehensive project pricing
• Interpret design drawings and contract documents to produce detailed estimates for fabrication, materials, and labor
• Collaborate with clients, vendors, and internal departments to develop estimates and resolve project-related issues
• Generate estimates to support project planning, scheduling, and resource allocation
• Create cost proposals for vendor and subcontractor selection
• Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of products, services, and projects by tracking actual costs against estimates throughout project execution
• Analyze material and labor requirements to determine optimal sourcing strategies (make vs. buy decisions)
• Prepare cost reports, expenditure summaries, and other documentation at regular project milestones
• Maintain an up-to-date directory of qualified suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors
• Manage the tendering process, including conducting negotiations and finalizing agreements
