ASSISTANT MECHANICAL DESIGNER
Location: Kansas City, MO.
Job type: Contract – Hire

Our client is hiring an Assistant Mechanical Designer for a full-time contract-to-hire role in Kansas City, MO .

Mechanical Design / Drafting resource to assist in creation of General Arrangement drawings, P&IDs and 3-D modelling.
The Assistant Mechanical Designer will assist in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and mechanical plans as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in creating General Arrangement drawings, P&IDs, and 3D Modeling.
  • Assist in performing a variety of routine assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, incorporating various system components, and refining rough sketches. Follow all company, client, and project design and drafting standards.
  • Assist in producing complete PFDs and P&IDs from verbal or written descriptions from the design engineer.
  • Apply basic formulas, principles, and practices, and use acquired knowledge of fundamental concepts and practices of the mechanical discipline.
  • Work collaboratively utilizing design systems to produce mechanical design deliverables.
  • Assist with a full range of drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Assist with initial rough designs, sketches, redlines, or mark-ups on ongoing projects.
  • Assist with analyzing reports, drawings, and tests, to plan and design projects.
  • Apply design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.
  • Incorporate schedules, budgets, and project criteria into mechanical design and layouts.
  • Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files, and project-related information in a logical and well-structured manner.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or a related field and 2 years of related experience are required
    • OR Associate's Degree and 3 years of related experience
    • OR 4 years of progressive detailing and design experience
  • Strong understanding of design software: AutoCAD and MicroStation to develop the design deliverables.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of design, calculations, and design systems.
  • Basic knowledge of the theory and practices of the engineering discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project manager, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate
