ABOUT THE POSITION : The Arts & Humanities Librarian is a teaching librarian with subject responsibilities in Art, Art History, Art Conservation, and Media Studies taught across The Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges and two graduate universities. Other relevant subject areas may be assigned depending on the background and interests of the successful candidate, as well as the needs of the organization.
This role will teach discipline-specific information literacy sessions; conduct strategic and targeted departmental outreach; provide general and specialized research consultations; and conduct collection development. The Arts & Humanities Librarian will participate on library, college, and intercollegiate committees. This position reports to the Head of Research Services and is part of the Research, Teaching, and User Services division of The Claremont Colleges Library.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following are the fundamental duties and responsibilities of this position which the incumbent must be able to perform to fulfill the purpose and requirements of this position.
Teaching, Outreach, and Research Services - Develops collaborative relationships with Library staff, faculty, and students to support the research, teaching, and learning of Arts & Humanities communities across The Claremont Colleges.
- Gains a deep understanding of Arts & Humanities programs and classes, and conducts targeted and strategic outreach, in order to fully integrate . information literacy across Arts & Humanities curricula, including information literacy instruction (ILI).
- Provides research support by appointment to students and faculty in Arts & Humanities fields, and general research support as needed, both online and in-person.
- Develops and maintains disciplinary materials, including research guides, resource lists, and instructional content.
- Continuously works to improve teaching abilities by assessing student learning during instruction sessions, participating in pedagogical professional development at the colleges and within the profession, and by participating in the library's peer teaching observation program.
- Collaboratively and strategically integrates digital, scholarly communication, and primary source literacies into ILI.
- Contributes, as needed, to interdisciplinary ILI in our well-established first-year instruction program.
Collection Development and Discovery - Develops online, print, and multi-format collections that reflect the short-term and long-term research, teaching, and learning needs of Claremont Colleges' Arts & Humanities communities.
- Consults with disciplinary faculty to address content and format needs.
- Manages endowed funds for general collection development.
- Becomes familiar with the research lifecycle and discipline specific resources and repositories.
Library and Professional Service - Participates in library-wide planning and assessment projects through service on committees, task forces, and through special projects.
- Actively engages in networking and professional development through local, regional, national, or international organizations through committee work, office-holding, presentations, and publications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Unless otherwise stated, the following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below.
Education/Training:
- A master's degree in library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited program at the time of appointment, OR the equivalent education and experience.
- Undergraduate degree in an art-related field, or comparable experience in an arts-related organization (for example, work in an art museum or art library).
Experience: None required.
Competencies:
- Strong commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusivity within the library, as both a place of work and as an educational partner.
- Reading knowledge of a Romance language, preferably Spanish.
- Passion for teaching undergraduate and graduate students and for assessing student learning.
- Understanding of how digital literacy and scholarly communications intersect with, complement, and extend IL concepts, practices, and dispositions.
- Awareness of collection development trends in libraries and familiarity with managing and developing multi-format library collections
- Knowledge of current academic trends and issues, in general and in the Arts & Humanities, related to information literacy approaches, frameworks, and pedagogies.
- Familiarity with the evolving nature of scholarly communications in Arts & Humanities disciplines.
- Interest in experimenting with new modes of instruction, assessment, and research support services.
- Adaptable, flexible, and proactive in dealing with evolving library and campus priorities, which may require taking on new/varied subject area responsibilities.
- Exemplary emotional intelligence when working with colleagues and users.
- Dedication to providing responsive learner-centered public services.
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to work collaboratively as a team player
- Effective planning, organizational, and time management skills, including capacity for working independently to set priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate work in a Fine Arts, Art History or related discipline.
- Experience supporting Arts/Humanities subjects in an academic library.
- Familiarity with specialized library software, applications, and platforms, such as Worldcat Discovery or Springshare.
Work Schedule: The regular hours for this full-time position are 40 hours scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 12 months annually. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule to work partial hours remotely as approved by the supervisor.
Union: This position is represented by The Claremont Colleges Services Library Staff Federation AFT Local 6735. The employee in this position will be bound by the collective bargaining agreement.
COMPENSATION Pay: The pay rate for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $5,666.67 - $6,083.33 per month.
