Job Details Job Location Louisville Campus - Louisville, KY Position Type Full Time Education Level Master's degree required Description Job Summary The Art Therapist is responsible for providing trauma-informed, therapeutic art interventions to survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault, including individuals, families, and groups. This role facilitates creative expression and healing through brief, evidence-based interventions that enhance resilience, emotional processing, and coping skills. As part of The Center for Women and Families' (CWF) trauma-informed services, the Art Therapist collaborates with clinical staff, case managers, and advocacy teams to ensure holistic support for survivors. The role requires a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, creative therapy modalities, and survivor advocacy principles. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Therapeutic Interventions & Direct Client Support Conduct individual, group, and family art therapy sessions tailored to the needs of survivors. Facilitate creative, trauma-informed interventions to help clients process emotions, develop coping skills, and rebuild self-esteem. Perform intake interviews and assessments to inform individualized treatment plans. Provide crisis intervention and supportive counseling for survivors experiencing acute distress. Ensure all therapeutic approaches align with evidence-based and survivor-centered care models. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Program Development and Collaboration Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in art therapy, trauma-informed care, and crisis intervention. Work collaboratively with case managers, advocates, and shelter staff to coordinate care for clients. Assist in developing and adapting curricula for art therapy groups and workshops. Participate in case conferences, internal meetings, and client care planning. Documentation and Compliance Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency policies and legal requirements. Ensure all records comply with HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines. Track client progress and outcomes using established reporting tools. Training and Professional Development Participate in required training to maintain licensure and strengthen clinical skills. Provide staff education on art therapy techniques and trauma-responsive strategies, as requested. Engage in regular clinical supervision and peer consultation. Qualifications Education and Experience Master's degree in Art Therapy, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field required. Licensed to practice a mental health discipline under Kentucky laws (LPATA or LPAT required). Commitment to obtaining additional trauma-related certifications if needed. Experience providing trauma-informed therapeutic services preferred. Background in crisis intervention, case management, or survivor advocacy is a plus. Experience working with diverse populations and individuals in shelter or crisis services is beneficial. Skills and Abilities Strong knowledge of art therapy techniques and trauma-informed clinical practices. Ability to develop creative, individualized treatment plans. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills in high-stress environments. Organizational and time management abilities to manage multiple responsibilities. Proficiency in electronic documentation and secure recordkeeping systems. Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. Other Requirements Must have a valid driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets CWF automobile insurance requirements, if operating a company vehicle. Must have a successful background check. Essential Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, or move freely while conducting therapy sessions, workshops, and groups. Must be able to lift 25 lbs and up to 70 lbs with assistance. Position may involve moderate physical activity, including setting up and transporting therapy materials. Ability to work in high-stress environments, requiring emotional resilience and adherence to self-care practices. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to support clients.
