If you enjoy working with a close-knit team and envision yourself as a key contributor to the ongoing success of a small business with your strong technical proposal skills, we’d love to hear from you!

BKL values the diversity of the people we hire and the communities we serve. Diversity at BKL means fostering a workplace in which individual differences are appreciated, respected, and responded to in ways that fully develop and use each person's talents and strengths.

  Who we are

BKL is Western Canada’s premier acoustical consultancy. With our team of 29 engineers, scientists, and administrators, we are involved in a large and diverse range of projects including architectural acoustics and environmental noise and vibration assessment. We consult to commercial, institutional, health, education, industry, entertainment, arts, transportation, residential, and a variety of other market sectors.

Our architectural related work includes room acoustics, sound isolation, mechanical (HVAC) noise control, mechanical and electrical equipment vibration isolation, and outdoor noise propagation. Project delivery methods include traditional delivery (architects, clients), design build, and public private partnership (P3).

Our environmental noise and vibration work typically involves baseline monitoring, prediction and assessment, preparation of impact statements, and participation in public meetings and hearings for major transportation and industrial projects.

BKL has provided consulting services in acoustics since 1966. The firm is a successful small business with a friendly work environment and excellent opportunities for career advancement. It is wholly owned and managed by senior employees of the firm.

What you’ll do

  • Positively impact current and future clients and the projects they bring to BKL by providing world class technical expertise
  • Full life cycle project management including preparation of proposals and fee estimates, conducting measurements, analyzing data, acoustical modelling and preparing reports

  • Act as an advocate for the promotion of acoustics and BKL to clients, regulators and influencers in your day-to-day duties
  • Provide support and direction to our team of engineers, consultants, project managers, financial controllers and administrators.

You have the technical expertise and a professional attitude and a willingness to tackle multiple projects at once. You have a positive outlook and require minimal supervision. You manage your time, prioritize tasks, and motivate yourself. You meet deadlines with high-quality, scrupulous work. We are looking for someone we can work alongside that we can count on.

  • Excellent English verbal and written and communication skills
  • Ability to perform duties with a high level of professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, and diplomacy
  • Proven ability to effectively handle and adapt to multiple priorities, organize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Microsoft Office, drafting and acoustics software applications
  • Experience with test equipment and methodology for sound and vibration measurements
  • Familiarity establishing strong QA/QC procedures
  • Experience operating in a dynamic consulting environment is an asset
