SUMMARY: Handles all emergency and non-emergency communication by radio and/or telephone relative to police, medical, and fire.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Receive and handle all incoming 911 and non-emergency calls for Police and Fire, as well as 911 calls for medical.
2. Radio dispatch the appropriate emergency responder to emergency and non-emergency situations.
3. Dispatcher positions within the Department require training on specific job responsibilities prior to the employee assuming the position. Field training and formalized instruction within these areas shall be successfully completed before duties are assumed.
4. Determine call criteria and appropriate response. Enter calls for service into the Motorola Flex system. Communicate with police, fire, and medical via radio. Querying and entering information into law enforcement systems for warrants, criminal history, missing persons, and stolen property.
5. Communicating with other agencies via ACIC and telephone. Must attain a Level II ACIC/NCIC certification within 12 months of date of employment.
6. This is a shift work position for a 24/7 operation. You will be an at will employee who may be called to respond and assist for any critical incidents.
7. Must have an affinity for multitasking and prioritizing, with public safety as well as officer safety in mind.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to think and act clearly in stressful situations and emergencies.
Must be able to speak clearly and distinctly and possess good listening skills.
Must have ability to reduce rambling and disconnected messages from callers into concise, accurate messages to emergency responders.
Must have or be able to obtain a working knowledge of radio/dispatch procedures and basic computer system. Should have the ability to type and enter data via computer keyboard in timely fashion. Minimum of 35 WPM.
Must be able to pass a background investigation and a criminal history check.
The Hot Springs Village POA and the Hot Springs Village Police Department does not allow applicants or employees to use Medical Marijuana.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
One to five years of previous dispatch experience will be taken into consideration. Not Required.
