What you can expect in this role As a Spectrum Intern, you'll be essential to two teams - your respective department and your Intern peer group. Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You'll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on May 28th, webinars, community service, cross-functional project, and final presentations.
Internship responsibilities may include
- Implement and maintain access, edge and core network configurations on new and existing infrastructure in strict adherence to existing engineering best practices and standards.
- Processing and handling of engineering requests for implementation, configuration changes, and service disconnects through defined workflows.
- Provides technical guidance and assistance to other departmental boundary partners within the Spectrum Enterprise organization such as field technicians, or other engineering and support teams.
- Works on projects/ systems/issues of medium to high complexity surrounding network planning, configuration and optimization.
- Perform QA functions for validation and performance testing of newly installed services and hardware.
- Performs other duties as requested by manager.
- Work with CLI/GUI across multiple platforms such as Cisco, Juniper, and Nokia
Here's what it takes to get started Required qualifications
- Must be enrolled in an accredited College or University graduating with a bachelor's degree between December 2025 - May 2026
- Must have at least a 3.0 GPA or greater in current program
- Ability to travel locally to Spectrum Intern development events and activities throughout the program
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without restrictions or need for future sponsorship
Preferred qualifications
- Ability to understand complex technical documentation, processes, and problem resolution.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Competent data networking knowledge (OSI Model, TCP/IP, Optical Transport)
- Competent understanding of optical transmission technologies including SONET, DWDM, CWDM, and EPON services.
- Some knowledge of network design, network architecture, protocols, and network topology
- Ability to adapt quickly to tools and applications such as ticketing systems and software tools to support the current operations.
- Competent experience of basic network devices and basic network appliances
- Ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly. Great attention to detail.
- Communication skills - verbal and written
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
