Writer/Director Rita Pereyra was born in Mendoza, Argentina. At an early age, the family moved to Miami, FL where Pereyra has resided ever since. Graduating Summa Cum Laude from Florida International University, Pereyra earned her B.A. in English and B.S. in Political Science. Shortly after, the aspiring filmmaker began pursuing a degree in Film Production from Miami Dade College. With her student short film, El Primer Dia, Pereyra was selected into the Miami International Film Festival Cinemaslam competition, where she took home an unprecedented five awards: Best Drama, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and the coveted Audience Award; making Cinemaslam history for most awards won by a single film. Character and story are the backbone of Pereyra’s films, exploring the complex paradox in human relationships.
